AL's score jump is "explainable" becuase of extenuating circumstances - on his last attempt he took the test in some kind of special manner -- like maybe he had the questions read aloud to him, etc. This was done to accommodate a learing disability and is perfectly legal, from what I understand. From what I've read he will probably be cleared by the NCAA but it may take too long for him to be able to report for the first summer semester.

I am by no means an expert in any of this... I am simply summarizing information that I have read.

so far is this correct
32 signees
2 count against last year
____
30
1 Kerry murphy will be delayed until janurary
1 Lewis going to Hargrave
1 going Juco
______
27 left to fit into 20 - 25 spots?

with 2 open to baseball draft.
There were 30 Signees for the 2008 class and room to bring in a maximum of 25. The exact details are being worked out and probably won't be known for sure until sometime after fall practice starts.

1, It looks like Murphy will remain at Hargrave until Dec. He has not gotten a qualifying ACT score yet.
2. Lewis has said he will go to Hargrave and he plans on re-signing with Bama in 2009.
3. I have not heard of anyone going to JUCO.
4. Destin Hood is most likely going to be a high draft choice and go with MLB and Melvin Ray may go with MLB if drafted high enough.

I think a lot of people are counting the other Dareus as part of the list and that he might be going JUCO. Also, we still don't know about Upshaw and Bolton, which just like everyone else I would like to know about them. It will be neat over the summer to see the projected depth chart with the freshman class once we know who is in and who is out!

It was a given that Marcel's brother Demerius Dareus was going to have to go to JUCO. It was also a given that Bama would not be able to sign Marcel without offering his brother Demerius. They were known to be a package deal, so I am still scratching my head as to why he was not ever acknowledged as signing with Bama. It is a fact that he was never counted officially as a signee, even though he signed an LOI, and he was never included in the 30 count.

Bama Mag: Demerius Dareus Profile

On another site it was said that Courtney Upshaw will qualify. I would like to see that in a published report though. It is still up in the air about Devonta Bolton though.

I hope Upshaw makes it and Bolton also, it would be nice to see M. Williams as a rush end, with Upshaw as the Jack and Bolton getting a shot at some type of play maker on O. I think the numbers game shows how this staff done their homework on knowing who would make it in and who would not. That is why it is so good for the staff to get to go to the high schools and speak to the admin. about each player that they are recruiting, to find out about character and grades. I think it is funny to read on other message boards about the numbers (hom many we have and who were back counters) they always get it wrong and good old Tidefans.com gets it right, thanks Crimson Surfer and others.:BigA:

From what I understand, Demerius Dareus commited to Bama, but never signed a LOI (like the DB out of Mobile a couple of years ago that knew he was headed to JUCO...Elliot McGaskin). As far as Bolton, there was a story a month or two ago where he got the needed ACT score, so he was supposedly good to go. I haven't seen a story on Upshaw...but I've seen people claim he is supposed to be good to go to. As of right now, it looks like the only academic casualties will be Murphy and Lewis. We could get both of those guys back in the 2009 class if they can both raise their test scores(although I doubt we ever see Murphy in crimson--he's our new Titus Ryan/Mike Ford).
