With Alabama basketball's loaded roster, minutes will be hard to come by this season. For two new players, that means redshirts for 2024-25.

Oats announced that freshman Naas Cunningham and senior guard Houston Mallette will redshirt this season, but for very different reasons: Cunningham will sit out to add some size, while Mallette, a transfer from Pepperdine, will look to fully recover from knee trouble.

Same with Cunningham. Tons of upside. In the right space he’s one and done.

This makes me feel a lot better about this year's team! That's two less mouths to feed. Once we get Youngblood back, this team will be legitimately 11 deep. With the style we play and counting on some injuries, that's probably about the right number to keep everyone happy and motivated. 13 would have been too many. Good roster management by CNO. I am so pumped for this team; the sky is the limit!

From everything I've seen, these were clearly the two guys who were on the outside looking in for PT. NIL has probably changed the game here also. Guys can be a lot happier sitting out when they're making some $$$.

This is good news. I hope this works out as planned. There are a ton of current players that will be gone after this season.

In the past, this kind of news was usually positive. Now, looking forward to future rosters can be a big guessing game. Always need some players who have been in the system for a bit.
