Trent had a few snaps out of the Wildcat and he looked good. We will be fine. Mark is a great leader on and off the field.
Yeah, I know we will, but I do wish we had him for the Penn St Game. Ingram and Richardson together grinding out yardage last year was something to behold. If our young defense got into some problems, it would be nice to counter again with clock-eating drives. And who knows, Richard/Lacy combo might prove pretty lethal yet. Just have to wait and see.

Here's all we know: definitely out for SJS. Best guess is that he's out for PSU & Duke, as well. Someone above said "Mark, see you at arky" and that's the likely scenario.

Wishing Mark a speedy recovery and sounds like he's doingg the right thing by taking care of this now.

Thank heavens we have what and who we have in the backfield behind Mark. Between TR, EL and DG, we won't see much of, if any drop off in the running game this week. Not to take advantage of someone else's misfortune but this could be TR's moment to shine and show what he really has - as well as EL.

That said, I'd feel a lot more at ease if MI was back for the Penn St game.

Mark will still make a big contribution as best he can, but his play will be missed. Make no mistake about it, you don't lose a player like Mark Ingram from your line up and not miss him (especially, if he misses games beyond SJSU).

However, Bama is in better shape to suffer this kind of loss than any team in the country. Trent is fantastic. We will get a real demonstration of what Eddie Lacy brings to the table (and when the game is not yet put away). Expectations for him are very high, also. Goode is a very capable back, of course. Bama won't be exactly what we were at RB, but we should be just fine.

The game against SJSU just got a bit more intriguing.

I'm not so much worried about the SJSU game as I am about Penn State. I think we win on Sept. 11, but it may be closer than I expected.

Best of luck to Mark and his recovery. The most important thing is to get healthy and not try to come back too soon. I'm confident we're in good hands with Trent and others but was really looking forward to seeing Mark come out on Saturday!

Best of luck to Mark for a full and speedy recovery.

As others have said, I would like to have him available for the PSU game, but I don't expect that and don't want to see him rush back before he's ready and get injured again (e.g. Sam Bradford). I hope he's available for Arkansas or Florida at the latest.

Haven't we had someone recently that had a minor knee injury (i.e. meniscus) that played on it anyway and had surgery after the season? I'm not questioning the decision, I just vaguely remember something similar in the past. Maybe Ingram's was a little worse and they decided to get the surgery now so he wouldn't be slowed later in the season.

Yeah, by intriguing, I meant more interesting because Trent steps into a starting role and, presumably, Lacy gets quite a few carries with the game still on the line. We should still not have any trouble with SJSU. Ideally, Ingram would be back for PSU, but I think that's unlikely, though unknown for now.

Best of luck to MI and can not wait until he returns. No matter when that happens. If it is soon it only will make our dynamic duo that much better, if he is out alot longer then it might help him to stay another season, doubt but can hope.

The interesting part will be when he comes back. With TR we could probably leave MI out to recover until Ark. Even Penn State I am not worried about because we are returning one of the best WR in the country with an unbeaten returning QB. But what will get interesting is TR. If MI does not return until Ark TR will probably have 400+ yards if not 500+ by then or even more. How do you slow down a machine once you release it full speed. If things do go that way I would not be surprised to hear someone elses name pop up in the Heisman race. RTR

It may not be worse... The fact that you can't remember the name probably just means it wasn't a key player like Mark. Getting his knee taken care of now will help ensure that it won't have to be taken care of in a few weeks... like before we play Florida.

Here's what I have been thinking about this:
If Mark is (Heaven forbid) out until the Arkansas game, by the time we start facing all those SEC teams who have bye weeks before us, Mark will just be getting started... and he'll be very well rested/motivated. I just think it is too early to worry.

Also, it never hurts that his "backup" scored a touchdown in the national championship. We're not left with a new guy who might have to deal with nerves... and I think we all know that Trent is an amazing player.

Man I hate it for Mark especially this close to the season starting. But we will be fine at running back till he gets back. Nothing like I remember happening in '84 i believe when Kerry Goode went down against BC and Doug Flutie after running all over them for the first half. Bama's season went in the tank after that first half except for the Auburn game and Wrong Way Bo.

I am more worried about Marcel's status than Mark's absence but neither with our depth is going to send this season in the tank. Coach has recruited well enough our second string would be a favorite to make it to Atlanta. I just love watching Mark run!!! Hurry back son!!!

Can anyone with experience in this field or this type of surgery give us more info on how long they think he'll be out?? Thanks.
The length of time he will be out really depends on what his injury was. From the sound of things it was probably a meniscal debridement. People are usually activity as tolerated with crutches for the first 2wks and seem to progress from there. That being said everybody is different. Some people never use crutches and some take a month to get off them. I would say the PSU is very optimistic to be at near full speed.

I like that. A much fresher Mark Ingram for the bulk of our tough schedule. Could be a blessing in disguise.
I can see a scenario where Richardson performs so well that when Mark can play again Trent has earned the first spot. Then Mark is inspired and has a ridiculous performance against Florida or something.

I've always said Mark is by far the best back on the team...last year we won a national championship with Ingram, Richardson, and Upchurch. Now we've got Richardson, Lacey, and Goode. Lacey and Goode are both unproven, and neither is guaranteed to be as good as Roy Upchurch, who IMO doesn't get enough love (VT anyone). The good thing, though, is that we'll probably still win all those games. Maybe we'll take more risks in the passing game, and maybe our defense will take it as a challenge to step up and mature a little faster than they would have. As long as MI is back before Arkansas.

You might have been thinking of Lane Bearden, punting with that leg injury he had and making bone jarring tackles on a bad leg.

What you said. You could very well be right, TR could feasibly hang on to the #1 back position with MI as his back-up whenever he returns (reversed rolls). Not to mention all of the talk and hype around Lacy during the past couple of years. If TR and EL live up to their hype and potential, is out of the realm of possibility that MI could end up third on the RB depth chart? Not a prediction. Just a hypothetical "what if" scenario.

Lacy and Goode are good backs...they could probably start for teams like LSU. Of course, that statement has to be proven in live action. I think we'll still have a solid 3-back rotation to get us through the Duke game. Richardson is a stud, Lacy was considered a stud too coming out, and Goode has some game action. Best case, this helps round out the tailback rotation and make us near unstoppable on the ground with his full-recovered return. We have the talent to let him take a week extra to get rehabbed.

Long-term, this means a fresh Ingram for those 6-straight SEC bye opponents. We just need Richardson and Lacy to get us through at least two games maybe three.

I don't expect our offensive strategy to be any different with Richardson and Lacey playing instead of Ingram and Richardson. I think they're quite capable of stepping up without us having to take more risks in the passing game, especially against SJSU and Duke.

I just hate it for Ingram. I was really hoping he could make a run at a second Heisman. I just don't see that happening if he misses the first 3 games.
