Mark May labels UT a sleeper and Clemson this season's biggest bust!

I'm casually watching ESPNews and Mark May picks his top 3 (Florida, Oklahoma, USC) and then spends a few minutes talking about UT. He thinks that a team with a new QB and OC has a great chance of only losing 1 and will make some news on the national scene.

That may be a stretch...but UT does have a young frosh RB by the name of Tauren Poole who's going to be a really good one. Saw him play throughout his HS career and he's gonna be special...mark my words.

and they still have Foster. But, like the poster said...a new qb AND a new OC? No deal.

Didn't he have us as a sleeper last year?...I guess we had a decent season...maybe a few less bad breaks and we would have had a solid year...by our Alabama standards... :)

You think 7-6 is a decent season?

Could be good, could be bad

The last 2 OC changes:
1999-Very good offense, but anybody could have coached that talent
2006-Brought some talent to the top that should have already been there

Last 3 Major QB Changes:
2004: Ainge came in and lit it up
2000: Once Clausen got to start, UT got hot
1998: Offense was simplified for Tee (Look for the same early this year)

All those situations turned out good, BUT there was not an OC and QB change in the same year, so we shall see...

Re: Mark May labels UT a sleeper!

Expectations are pretty high around the UT fans I know.

I think alot of it is, as we Bama fans know - changes like this are exciting. For us, it's monotonous. ;) Especially when you have someone taking a position like that with prior success. I know we are certainly excited about Coach Mack.

I think there is reason to be excited in Knoxville. Crompton is/will be a good QB this year (if the guy from Chattanooga doesn't steal the job) and what's-his-name seems to know what he is doing. We'll see a different team this year than we saw in T-town in 2007, IMO.

sleeper, doing what. yes foster is coming back, and he is a good one. a sound offensive line. unknown qb, without qb depth, and receivers that just are not the typical quality they have. defense, lost their best linebacker to the draft, and their def line is good. def backs always have trouble. maybe 8 wins in the east. fla, georgia, usc will beat them.

That LB loss is huge bc our DL was not good last year and they are a question mark this year...I heard a point brought up the other day that Mayo made some spectacular tackles that prevented long runs that would have made our DL look even worse...We have got to stop the run this year...The two keys to our season, IMO is 1. Stopping the run and 2. Solid (not spectacular) QB play.

We do those two things, we have a chance for ATL, we don't do both of them (I don't think one will get us there), we are in trouble

Any secondary with Eric Berry roaming around back there is a good secondary.

We are (obviously) excited about Berry...If he can follow-up last year with any improvement at all, then that secondary should be awesome...This kid has all the tools

I hear the UT AD is going to put him on offense for 15 plays, let him return a few kicks, and run a Heisman campaign for him

Hey, it's worked before ;)

It has been a rough decade to be Bama fan...Yeah, we had ups and downs last season. We beat TN in a good fashion...Hung with 2 of 3 top teams in the nation (GA and LSU)...Not too bad considering with the "material" we have.

Yeah, I remember the days where we in the National Championship hunt & going into the UT game undefeated....But it has been a while...

98' Another decent season...but throttled by VA Tech in the bowl game...
99' Very Good Year...but losing to LA Tech...Still couldn't beat TN
00' That was horrible...
01' Decent Year...following the debacle of 00'
02' Very Good Year...but the lose to Auburn...and the Fran situation...
03' Another bad year...
04' Decent year...back to a bowl
05' Very Good Year...but again...the Auburn game was horrible...
06' Team took a step back...Shula gets fired...

07' Saban takes over...the team shows signs of life that we have not seen in 10 years...The 1st half against Arkansas and Colorado...The game against TN...Even the overall performance against LSU and GA. Yes...you got the MSU and L-M games...But, the team had it's moments...

THUS THE DECENT YEAR!!! (LOL)

What is this Tennessee's tenth straight year to be a sleeper pick? With a new QB and OC i don't see it anytime soon.

I don't remember the exact stat, but I heard something the other day that the team picked to win the East since 1999 has only one it once...I may have this a little off, but I don't feel like going to research right now LOL...Off the top of my head, I think this is how it went down:

(Year/Team picked to win/team that won):

1998: Florida Tennessee
1999: Tennessee Florida
2000: Georgia Florida
2001: Florida Tennessee
2002: Tennessee Georgia
2003: Georgia Georgia
2004: Georgia Tennessee
2005: Tennessee Georgia
2006: Georgia Florida
2007: Florida Tennessee

Again, may be a little off, but it's almost better to be a "sleeper"

On ESPN's College Football Live today he said he thought Clemson would be the biggest bust of the season. Hopefully Bama will ensure that to start the season with a victory over them.

I was unable to watch College Football Live today, but I watched yesterday and Tuesday. On Tuesday's episode, he predicted Crompton to be a top QB in the nation due to the new O. On yesterday's episode, he predicted Foster to be a sleeper/dark horse for the Heisman. It sounds like to me that Mr. May has jumped on the UT bandwagon or has found something in Knoxville to smoke.

Maybe , he'll turn out to be just as good as Lamarcus Coker .

Hopefully it will be every bit as bad as it was last year
