You know, I still find all this funny. Andre sure kicked butt while he was at Alabama. Up until that incident with the agent, I never heard an unfavorable word about him or his performance. There seemed to always be a hole on the left side for Glen Coffee and Ingram in '08. Somebody on the left side was taking care of business.
So Marvin if he's screwing up on your watch, why don't quit running him down and instead put some energy in the direction of Andre and motivate is fat butt. A good lecture on the state of his job security would be a good start. JMHO

The fact that no NFL contract is guaranteed should be enough motivation for anyone. He got the job done at Alabama. I don't know what's the deal. Was he so good he didn't have to work that hard in college?

I don't think that's the whole story. He's near 370 now...much above what he hovered around in t-town. He's a pro now, it shouldn't take college-like babysitting. He's just not being professional.

Man just looks sloppy. Guess that extra conditioning didn't work. Anyone watching this game?

Yeah, he's just not looking good at all.

Two penalties. A sack or two.

He is an effective run blocker still.

He REALLY needs to get in shape.

I think his injuries have affected him mentally as well as physically. If he keeps working and stays injury free, he can work his way back to where he should be.

I watched it for a while just to see how he looked. It was depressing. I'm still hacked, though, at Lewis trying to blame his own failures on the Bama staff. He should be embarrassed...

It is depressing to watch that much talent being wasted. There's no way he is under the 350# contract limit.

Someone needs to pull Andre aside and lay it to him straight... either get your crap together and start working or hit the road. This is not Alabama's fault he was nfl ready while at Alabama... everything that is going on with him now is on him!

I assume some of you saw the Bengals training camp show on NFL Network last year, they have been replaying it. Its just like Hard Knocks on HBO. Anyway, its the typical preseason camp stuff. Well every now and then, they we talk about Andre's holdout. And business person for the Bengals who deals with contracts was talking to and about Andre's agent. Sorry, don't recall his name. Anyway, you got the vibe that she was frustrated with dealing with this amateurish guy. Finally, they come in and sign. Andre is dressed all sloppy. He signs his papers, and then his agent stands up and says.."welcome to the millionaire's club". I believe that explains everything right there. No welcome to the NFL, your future, Pro Football, the Cincinnati Bengals.

I think in 5 years, its going to be "Whatever happened to Andre Smith" on the NFL network.

All of these statements should be true, but they are obviously not with Smitty. So, IMHO, the Bengals' staff has two choices: keep moaning and groaning about his performance and wishing it were better, or see if they can motivate him in the way he was motivated while he was here.

You could also just be seeing somebody who is so naturally talented that he really didn't have to work that hard in college and is just now regularly facing people as talented as him. I kind of doubt that given the level of competition he played against and the work level demanded by his college head coach, but you never know.

I know he has gone from somebody that I heard Coach Cochran brag on to what he is now.
