Re: I guess Shula gets the blame......

-We might not have loss if Coach Bryant was still coaching.

-We might not have loss if Joe Namath was still there.

We can play the "might" game all night. "Mights" grow on chickens you know what.
Good lord man, that's precisely what the exercise entails. Of course it is speculative.

We have no way of knowing what difference it would make if our team were in better physical shape, but I can guarantee you it wouldn't hurt anything.

Re: I guess Shula gets the blame......

How can Shula get the most out of the talent when JPW is running for his life and Darby has very few holes to hit? Given how poorly the O=line has played, I think that we have gotten alot out of our talent.
That's just begging the question now, isn't it? Our OL has played like absolute crap--so I suppose you're telling me that's strictly a talent issue. If you believe our OL performs up to its physical ability, then I'll have what you're having.

i'm not saying whether or not to blame this one on shula, but look around the country, and other teams are able to pull off the upset. k-state, georgia, rutgers and others. we've yet to really do that yet in 4 years. you think the coach has something to do with that? and, uncharacteristically, because we have been underdogs fairly often, which is embaracing enough in itself, we have had plenty of opportunities to upset someone.
I thought we upset the No. 5 Gators last year?

Send Mal your resume.
Listen, I have never claimed to be a football coach, but I lived through the Ears Whitworth era and I know the despair of being the fan of a badly coached team and whether you choose to believe it or not, ALABAMA is a badly coached team. Replacing a few assistants will not solve our problem either. We hired a guy who has no business on an SEC sideline and it's time to admit it.

Weren't we the underdogs last year against Florida? Also, none of the teams that you mentioned have had an o-line play as poorly as ours. If our o-line had played better against UT or Arkansas we would have won both of those.

I agree, Tommy.

at the time it was. but, in contrast, k-state beating texas is an inferior team beating a superior team, that's a real upset. us beating florida- i think we were the superior team and florida was way overrated. we've never really beaten a team that was clearly better than us.

So does our OL exist in a vacuum, or are they coached by this staff as well?

To hear the apologists tell it, we've got 5 paraplegics along the starting OL.

For a guy old enough to claim that, you're up late tonight TMac. What you say has a lot of truth in it... regardless of how the team looked tonight. Hope Shula still can turn the ship around... but not certain that he's the kind of guy that can lead than turnaround.

Boy Tommy, that took a long time for you to come up with! You weren't singing that tune last year when we were 10-2.

No I don't. I stated last season that I wasn't happy with our o-line play but I was willing to give Connelly this year to prove me wrong. He hasn't got the o-lne playing better so it is time to send him packing. You are new and I haven't had the opportunity to post recently but I have been critical of Connelly all season.

Well then I guess we're in agreement that this staff isn't getting the most out of this team's talent.

You do realize that Texas' starting QB went down n the first quarter and the replacement played very poorly.

yeah, and if shula had fired our OL coach after year 2, or after year 3 when there was no excuse not to, we would be in a lot better shape. and if against arkansas he would have played to our strength in that game (passing) we would have won. and tonight against LSU if he wouldn't have punted when down by 2 touchdowns and less than 10 minutes left in the game we might have had a better chance of winning. if he would have motivated all our players in the weight room maybe we could have beat LSU in the 4th quarter. a lot of the reasons, not all, we are 6-5 are due to Shula not running the program at all close to as well as it could be.

Kansas State didn't have to deal with Colt McCoy either.

It is truly amazing how many people know what goes on inside the practices and the "inner workings" of the team. Must be the same people that bought Albert Means.

ok. i'm wrong on that one. but, in the history of college football there have been a lot of upsets, and in the history of alabama football, when we are underdogs we do a lot of winning. until the last 4 years, that is.

Just curious TMac.

1. Have you thought this since he was hired?

2. Did you think this last year when we started 10-0?

3. If no to #2 then when did you think we should have never hired him?

4. If Shula is fired should Kines not be offered a job by the next coach?

5. Before the season what did you think our record would be?

I don't know the first thing about the inner workings of the program. But I've got a pretty good idea about the on-the-field product, and it's not encouraging.
