Matt Wyatt - Jalen Milroe video

I actually got something out of the discussion of pass protection.

On the first pass TD to Bond, Milroe got pummeled immediately after releasing the ball because Proctor just quit blocking too soon. Proctor had good position and good protection up until the last instant. If he had just stayed engaged, he would have saved his QB a big hit. Bad news is that it happened at all. Good news is that from all accounts, Proctor’s mindset should make it pretty easy to coach him out of repeating that mistake.

On the last TD pass to Niblack, we had both Dippre and Haynes on MTSU’s right DE. They both missed, and Milroe was left vulnerable. Obviously, he completed the pass anyway. But the point is, against a better team with a faster DE, we might not have been so fortunate.

As a true freshman, I’ll cut Haynes some slack and call it a teachable moment. But he has to learn. This is a great example of the hazards of freshman RBs, no matter how talented they are with the ball in their hands. Dippre, however is a junior (maybe a 4th year junior?). He shouldn’t be making mistakes like that.

Thoughts:

Seth.... please stop playing marbles with the snap

On Jalen's 2nd rushing TD, MTSU had 2 DL lined up offsides.

On the deep TD pass to Bond, which was a thing of beauty, I love how Jalen took a shot from the DE and it didn't affect the throw at all. Don't love that he took the shot... but how he made the throw anyway.

Side note: Bond, wearing that #17 and running lightning fast, looks an awful lot like another #17. Some guy playing for the Dolphins right now.

There were a lot of details about that TD pass to Burton that I never saw, that Wyatt points out here. He looks the CB off of Burton, he makes the easy layup throw a little inside because Burton was so wide open, etc.

84 is going to be an absolute weapon.

This was an encouraging video to watch. Jalen did a lot right last week. I could see it during the game, but the detailed breakdown made it more evident. The sky has always been the limit for JM. His physical gifts are beyond belief. If he can put it together between the ears no one will have a shot at stopping him. We will really know where he is Saturday around 11:00.

Of the plays Wyatt broke down, this is my favorite. The play design and things Rees is doing is so much more "next level" than what we saw last season. Defenses who were used to reading childrens' books with lots of pictures (when it came to our offense), are going to have to adjust to reading academic, upper level stuff.....no pics. 😁

Love his videos thank you for posting this. Looks like Milroe could be the real deal now that we are done with lazy BOB.

Aside from Milroe executing the offense, the play designs from last season to this season are very noticeable. The defense is having to deal with more pre-snap and post-snap "stuff" than last season. Granted, that doesn't guarantee success, because the players still have to execute, but it increases our chances of a successful play.

Say it a thousand times!!!

I'm very excited about what Milroe could be. But I really want to see him hit the intermediate and middle part of the field. Eventually he's going to have to hit throws to those parts of the field.

If he can...watch out

I think this is where Rees' use of the TEs will help him with those throws. Last season, we didn't use the TEs for much of anything, but this season we can use the WRs in conjunction with the TEs to open up more throwing space in those intermediate areas of the field.

Agreed. IIRC Buchner hit a TE over the middle in his short time in.

Watching the video and also seeing Clemson with a starting QB, Klubnik who was in Simpson's class rated one notch higher than Tye, has cured many of my concerns over starting Milroe. I still believe TS has great potential but can see why the maturity of CNS generaly makes the right decision.

I'm not all that anxious about Milroe. Just certain things I'd like to see. His potential is very high with his running and seemingly his deep ball which I think will improve even more as the season goes on.

I also think Rees knows how to use Milroe to maximize his talent and the offensive talent around him. The previous coordinator that shall remain unnamed because....reasons.....put Milroe in such a bad position in his only start last year that alot of us got a very bad impression of the young man.

Milroe has a great work ethic from what I've seen and read. The kid's athletic ability is absolutely incredible. As long as he continues to gain confidence and fights through inevitable adversity, he can lead this team to a big season.
