Bama Game Thread: MBB Bama vs Illinois (Chicago) - FS1 - 8pm CST (Wed Nov 19)

Philon is that dude!
Love Mallette’s passion!
Bol Bowen fills so many roles!
Love the hustle from Allen!
Seeing Bristow for the first time he is the X factor that could make this team special!
Man this team is exciting didn’t mention what Wrightsell, Sherrell, and Holloway can bring. This team is deep.

And that’s all before we get Bathea going who should be the best ball handler we’ve got.

If we have Bristow for Purdue, we probably win that game at home. Exciting to think that he's still a little banged up and can get even better and move around even more. Love his activity! Sherrell needs to learn to play without fouling against high level teams. If he does, we might just have enough inside between him, Bristow, Bowen, and Allen.

But they still need to clean some things up. Philon has to be more clutch and be more of a leader. He has missed key free throws the last two games in clutch situations. It cost us against Purdue and essentially ended the game and almost cost us last night. They also keep giving the ball to Allen, a freshman who is not a great ball handler or free throw shooter, at the end of games and leaving him alone to bring the ball up. There's a good chance he's going to turn it over or he's going to miss foul shots. Philon should be demanding the ball or better yet, it should be Trelly and Mallette getting open and going to the foul line. They are our best free throw shooters normally and in the clutch. We need to clean up things on D. We have got to play PNRs better and we got to move our feet and play defense without reaching so much. I understand we try to speed people up but the foul discrepancies are going to get us killed against good free throw shooting teams. If Illinois hits their free throws last night, we lose that game as well.

I do like the potential of this team. We are constituted a little differently this year and may have a little better chance against the true contenders. We'll find out a little more in the next couple of weeks against Gonzaga and Arizona. Roll Tide!

Bristow and Allen showed that rebounding isn’t about height. It’s about want.

But we have more depth inside than I thought. And Williamson is not it.

We will be 8 heavy and 3 more light in rotation before Bethea. We will play 12 after. Crazy.

I'm not following what you mean by this. I'm expecting to go D'oh, when it's explained. :)

Bristow looks like a taller, longer, more skilled on O version of Mo D from the small sample size we've seen of him.

I think we can be really good on D this year. We generate some turnovers and are MUCH quicker switching on ball screens than last year.

Excited to see what we can do in LV next week! RTR
The turnovers are a pleasant surprise. We are a lot more active with our hands and forcing traps/double teams than years past it seems.

always good to win. So far the unknowns coming in are all turning out positive. Fun to watch. The defense has been a breath of fresh air this year. D will keep us in every game and the offense can erase deficits fast. This schedule is crazy hard but fun.
