Man, if we get a defensive effort like that for the rest of the year, I think we'll live up to the preseason hype. That was the best overall game we've played the entire year imo.

The cup was a mile wide last night and we were ACTUALLY forcing turnovers. I hope CNO blows wind up their skirt about this game, it was a great example of what we are capable of.

It sure would be great to ride the momentum from this over the next three instead of what happened after Texas. It wouldn't hurt my feelings, if we go 2-1 on the remaining ones(or better) to then have an early SEC exit to rest. I think that early exit really helped us last year.

This is the Alabama team we need going forward. Last night, this team played like it was PO’d. MSU tried to “thug it up” early and we responded by getting in their grill and defensively eating their lunch. And IMO our defensive intensity in that first half “sparked” us on offense.

This is a great lesson for our guys heading to Knoxville. If shots aren’t falling, ramp it up defensively, get a few easy buckets to get your offensive flow going.

I didn't get to watch the game because we went to the LSU-Tennessee game with some UT friends since we live near Baton Rouge now. Obviously, if we shoot 49% from 3 making 22 of them, no one will beat us. It won't be that easy against the better teams though. But it is good to see we finally shot like that at home. Hopefully, that's a sign of things to come against Florida in a couple of games.

As far as UT, we can beat those guys for sure. They are long (except Ziegler who is so quick though) and strong and don't give you much air space on offense. Bama will have to play with a lot of force. LSU was athletic enough to give them problems when UT had the ball. It was 26-23 UT at half. UT went to a high, center pick and roll in the second half and LSU didn't handle it well at all so UT pulled away. We struggle defending that as well. But if we can play good, aggressive D and shoot decently, I say we win by at least 10. UT is not very deep either, so if we can get the tempo up, they should get tired. Okpara is a beast inside for them. He controlled inside on both ends of the floor. I didn't realize he is that good, so he will be a challenge. I would love to see us get the W Saturday and then against Florida at home, then have Auburn to lose at A&M and at UK, and have the SEC come down to the Bama-Auburn game the last game of the season!

I fear that the refs will not let that happen @ UcheaT and may whistle us to death. The tackle teams seem to get a lot of favoritism on their home courts. I want to see them try though because the defense was on fire just like the offense.

Since I have historically followed football more than basketball and understand why the SECCG was created in football, why were conference tournaments created for basketball? Same reason, just money?

I've been thinking about how an early exit from the SEC tournament might benefit the team, or skipping it all together if possible. Teams like Auburn, Bama, Tenn and UF really don't need the tournament. Maybe UF could improve their seeding with a run but probably not much. Barn, Bama and UT seeding probably doesn't change at all no matter what happens in the tournament. There is no real benefit other than chasing the banner; and maybe that is enough of a reason. Just some thoughts hat have been running through my head.

Excellent effort on both ends last night. MSU isn't a pushover on defense, but we torched them from 3 even with hands in our faces all night. UT will obviously be better on the defensive end though. With my statement last game about the trio of Holloway, Nelson, and Sears defensively, I noticed last night that whenever that combo was on the floor Stephenson and Dioubate were the other two... smart to have two of your best (if not the best) defenders on the court if they're all in the game. Wondering if Nelson's defensive issues are related to his injury... or something else.

Also think the modified schedule Oats is running now is helping them be fresher. Commentators last night referenced the fact there was adjustments made after the Mizzou game last week as far as time spent in practice, rest, etc.

I think he realized how special this group is, and that they need recoup time. I haven’t given up on the SEC championship yet. They have to obviously win their last three. Which means we need Auburn to drop one more before us.

Something to think about... with a roster stacked as much as our's, competition in practices are likely a notch above what used to be the norm. Not always easy to dial things back when you've got guys who want to compete and earn more PT. That said, I'm sure it's not as easy for Oats to simply "rinse and repeat" what was done in previous seasons. He's likely learning to adjust as we go along.

I don't even know if I want to win the SEC championship. I think I'd rather go into March Madness with a chip on our shoulder.
