It feels like "need more big men" has been an issue for a decade + now, even before Oats. Do bigs just not want to play at Bama?
I think it’s a combination of a true big doesn’t want to play in that system, and also Oats’ doesn’t want a true big. If you can’t shoot the three ball, Oats’ isn’t recruiting you.It feels like "need more big men" has been an issue for a decade + now, even before Oats. Do bigs just not want to play at Bama?
I remember. I'm not saying we're no better now than then. All I'm saying is we'll never win a title with Oats' style of play.Do you remember the time between mid Gottfried and the arrival of CNO?
I do agree with that.We do remember and we're very thankful that the program is infinitely better than that time period. But we are past that and are a top 15 program now consistently. You would just like to see some tweaks and small changes to the system to try and break through the championship ceiling. We're 7 seasons in on CNO's tenure. Like the poster said, it just seems like repeat every year when the threes aren't falling. That's where I am also. I enjoy Alabama basketball where it's at but you sure would like to see some small changes to get to the next level.
It's just like we're a nice novelty. Every Alabama game, they say Alabama and Nate Oats just like to shoot threes and shots at the rim and they show the shot charts every time. Ok, cute. And it does win a lot of games. Just would like to see a plan B when that's not working, like 22% from threes last night. It's even worse when we play the big, tough teams and get annihilated on the boards along with shooting poorly. Vandy has no size inside so that wasn't the problem last night.I do agree with that.
If that game was loose than I have some water front property in Nebraska to sell you. If Alabama breathed too hard on a Vandy player driving to the hoop a foul was called. I honestly expected Oats to go scorched earth policy in the presser but he took the high road.It may be bad that Bama only plays Vanderbilt on the road this season if both teams are near the top of the league at the end of the season. These usually work out but it can be frustrating.
It is not always good for one team even when the refs "call it even". A loosely called game favors the team that relies on pushing, shoving, hand-checking, and holding on defense. I missed the game so I don't know about the officiating so this may not apply.
Worried about that too, look on his face when he tweaked whatever then seemed a little hobbled rest of the way - hopefully he'll be ok thoughAny one of several things happen and we win this game in spite of all that went on with horrible officiating (both ways).
Sherrell being available
Philon being able to finish the game
Someone get hot from 3.
Kentucky Williamson shows up.
Unfortunately all of those things hurt us.
I have a feeling Trelly is about to miss some games. He was not moving well late in the game.

San Diego State University had very physical and experienced players who were tough on defense. Miller was playing injured which affected his play. Maybe a healthy Miller would have been enough; SDSU played a solid game.I don’t know about that. I mean, 7 seasons, 3 sweet 16s, elite 8, and a F4. 2 Reg season titles and 2 SEC tourney titles.
I still personally believe we *should* have won it all the Brandon Miller year. But the media was bent on that being the focal point for the entire season. Basically demanding Oats kick Miller off the team without due process. (No surprise)
Turns out Oats was right in his judgement of Miller.
I think it cost them a very real shot at a title or at least another F4.

If you watch the game, you know he wasn’t pouting.Philon out with fully body cramps and receiving IVs in the locker room... I'm going with either hungover or pouting...

“He just said full-body cramps. I don’t know. He played 19 minutes and he had to go back and get an IV and couldn’t play. I don’t know why he’s getting full-body cramps after only playing 19 minutes, but that’s what he had going.”
As soon as he did it he realized what he had done. Lack of focus. Finally gets a call and missed the FTs. He was 1-4 FT and 3-7 3PG. You're right, that kind of night.Holloway. He missed a free throw. Caught his miss and shot it again. Before his second FT. Called a tech as a delay of game. That kind of night.
