I think the thread starter has a legit point. AJ tends to overthrow which is a by-probuct of not wanting to make a mistake. He needs to have confidence and make the throw. I can see Maze being frustrated because he's open.

Other than the long ball, I'm very happy how AJ is playing. His poise last night was outstanding!

The Bama/LSU game is going to be one for the ages.

I will agree that McCarron still has a ways to go getting the right touch and timing on his deep routes. It's one thing to hit that pass at A-Day, but another thing entirely to throw a perfect pass during a live SEC game. But, that out route he threw to Maze on the boundary when we really needed a 1st down was about as clutch as you can get. If he can continue to make plays like that down the stretch, he WILL win games for us.

Is it just me or do we have one of these threads doubting AJ every week?
EVERY WEEK! EVERY GAME! We need inprovement in the kicking game, yes. QB play is fine in the CNS/CJM system.

NEWSFLASH: AJ McCarron is a redshirt sophomore first year starting QB in the strongest conference in the nation. HE'S DOING A FINE JOB AND NOT MAKING BONEHEADED MISTAKES!

AJ has done a great job so far. He has showed that he can make smart decisions and make passes to move the ball and open up the running game. Furthermore, our defense and special teams is scoring more points than the opposing teams are. Do we even need to field a qb? LOL.

Yep. Just as we've always had a thread (or three) doubting the abilities or actions every qb we've ever had for I don't remember how long. Regardless of how well our team is doing as a whole, someone, somewhere is going to tell us how they doubt this player or that coach's actions or decisions. They'll always say they are worried about this game or that team or whatever else comes into their narrowly focused minds. Frankly, I get sick and tired of reading them, but I also have to accept that those members have the same privilege to post their thoughts as myself. JMHO

Probably not. Just put TR in at wildcat... :D

I guess I continue to be impressed with his poise after having played in what was hyped as two GREAT & AWESOME HOSTILE environments at PSU and now The Swamp in which we had heard over and over how AJ must show he can handle it, and so he did. Not once showing he was ever rattled in either game.
I do expect BAMA to get the deep passing game clicking at some point, and when they do, look out.

not doubting AJ one bit. he's playing very well. all i'm saying is he will be asked to put the team on his back and pull out a victory in 1 or 2 games this year. and i believe he will get it done!

I don't think we wouldn't have threads like this (or the media continuing to make comments) if AJ connected on his deep passes. When that is done, the critics will hush.

Also if AJ did continue to go deep like some have expressed he should, they would complain if he threw interceptions. He's doing what he has to do. He's gone into two traditionally hostile environments. He doesn't have one the rest of the season unless AU turns out to be better than thought.

AJ has played real smart, Great job no turn overs since Kent State. I don't think he will have to but I think at least one game he really shows why he is the starting QB & has a fantastic Game. Like GMac did against FL in the SECCG or the lad Barn drive in 2009.

With TR playing like he is, I think we will see a lot more of what's working, Trent, Lacy & Maze are really something special so AJ does not have to do it all.

I understood your post as not a knock on AJ.

AJ has played very well so far and I do think he is for real. But yes he will have to win the LSU game for us because LSU is no Arkansa or Florida. He will be called upon to pull that game out.

For me the encouraging thing is that he is making the right reads. Even when he over throws (barely) the decision to make that throw has been sound. It is only a matter of time before he gets his timing down with his receivers, than watch out.

A.J. is playing quite well. It not his fault that several of his pass's have been dropped including one that was a sure TD. The only thing I would like to see his when Sims is in toward the end of the game that they let him throw some passes. This would help get him ready in case something was to happen to AJ. We saw what happened to Fla last night when Brandly went down His backup looked like he didn't have a clue on what to do.

I think that it would be nice to get an opportunity to show that he can take the reins against a top-level opponent and lead this team to a win.

However, I never want to get to the point that losing our first-string QB "takes the wind out of our sails" like it apparently did to UF. I want the QB to have a sufficient and fulfilling role in the offense, but I don't want the offense to be so dependent on his skill set that his loss just dooms the offense.
