SEC Rules

SUCK. I can't believe that visiting bands are limited to two songs after play has ended. While it may be unreasonable to play a 20-minute concert, it takes at least 20-30 minutes for fans to exit the stadium. The bands certainly aren't holding anything up in that respect. TOO MANY RULES where there are NONE needed.

UT reported MDB about Rammer Jammer?

In a post related to the playing of Rammer Jammer after the game it was noted with some good background info I might add that in the past Ut had reported us to the SEC cause we overly played the Rammer Jammer and then they turned around and played it at us in BDS
Now folks I don't know about you but when is enough really enough?
Mal Moore better wake up and smell the roses - how much more caving in to
this kind of thing is he going to do? I and the folks I sit with intend to Rammer Jammer if I have to hum the notes and there isn't a thing ole Mal can do about it. For what we pay for those tickets I'll sing if I want to.

I'm sorry, but I can't figure out what in hades you're talking about.

First of all, there is no SEC rule about playing or over playing any song or cheer that I'm aware of. So what if UT "reported" it, though I doubt they did.

Secondly, what is Mal "caving in to"? I'm sure that you are more than welcome to sing anything you choose as often as you choose.

If you want to be critical of Mal Moore, that is certainly your right. How about coming up with something factual to support your criticism.

Note to Liberty Bell7

Thank you so much for your insighful and informative post
I really don't see myself as backward as one enlightened poster put it, but it is clear you are right on the money with your information.
This issue seems to have taken legs of its own and is hitting at the heart of what a lot of us feel are our traditiions and memories associated with Alabama football.
I stood in that stadium on Saturday remembering so many times in the past when as a group the Alabama fans felt pride. Rammer Jammer was fun, it was a taunt, it was part of the game atmosphere, nothing more -nothing less. Ive listened to Rocky Top til I wanted to throw up and each school has its special fight song or taunt if you will. Its part of the atmosphere of college football. Now in this politically correct age we live in I am suppose to apoloigize for wanting to beat the H*** of the Vols...well I did want to and I still want to and I will want to til I die.
When the UT band complained about how many times the MDB played Rammer Jammer it showed the small minds associated with UT, which doesn't surprise me.
Again, thanks for the post and all the hard work of the MDB.

Rammer Jammer Excellent Post LibertyBell7

Actually, the drum majors did not beg; Dr. Ozzello called it up.
I feel this is an appropriate time to set the record straight on when and when not to play Rammer Jammer. This post will be long, but there is some history to tell. I have heard the information from people on the band staff for the past three years, so I believe that it is reliable.

After we played Rammer Jammer five times and the Tennesee Waltz at UT in 2002, UT officials complained to the SEC, and so the SEC made the following rule:
If the visiting team wins, then the visiting band can only play the fight song and the alma mater after the game. The argument is that after the game, cheers such as Rammer Jammer taunt the opposing fans and band more so than the team. Also, in 2003, Coach Moore made some guidelines on the use of the Rammer Jammer cheer: it can only be played if we win by at least seven points (in football) and ten points (in basketball). This is also the year that Coach Moore began to really pressure the directors to end the rampant alcohol drinking in the band. My opinion is that these two things were done to boost the University's image in the wake of the Mike Price incident. Again, this is my opinion, but Dr. Ozzello had alluded to Price when he first discussed these rules two years ago, so that is why I believe this.

The MDB has pretty much complied with these two rules. During our last two road games where we won by more than seven points and a band was present, we played the Rammer Jammer cheer before time expired. These two games were Miss. St. in 2003 and South Carolina of this year. By doing this we obeyed the SEC rule and Coach Moore's rule. We did not play Rammer Jammer at Ole Miss because it would have violated both rules (especially the SEC one). Ironically, we actually did violate the SEC rule because one of the drum majors called up "Dream On." I'm sure nobody cared, though. We broke the letter of the rule, but not the spirit of it.

After the UT game, when we had finished Yea Alabama at the end of the game, Dr. Ozzello told us to play the RJ cheer because "I want to" (He might have said "Because I want it"--I was relatively far away). I used italics because he pointed at himself when he said I, which is the best way to emphasize that word to 300 band members at the stadium. Why would Dr. Ozzello want to, especially when he had just reminded us that morning at practice about the rule?

Now, what I am about to write is entirely my opinion, but I consider it to be an educated guess. If you read this Dr. O and it is untrue, please know that these may be the reasons I especially wanted to do Rammer Jammer to the Vols, and maybe thought you had similar reasons. In 2003, after UT beat us at Bryant-Denny, they did the Rammer Jammer cheer to us. This was particularly infuriating because they were the ones that complained to the SEC the previous year! The ink wasn't dry on the rule when they turned around and broke it. Dr. Ozzello reported it to the SEC office the following Monday, but I doubt they did anything about it. So I think he wanted it to deliberately get back at them. Plus, they thought we "conspired" to take a long time to start our halftime show last year (which is a whole other issue), so he was feeling no love for them anyway. On the other hand, he also might have wanted it because he has been here since 1989, so he has had to suffer UT like the rest of us.

I apologise for the length, and I want to reiterate that the last paragraph is my opinion (except about UT playing RJ in 2003).

Its really not hard to follow-even you will be able to follow it
and in the future do your homework

Next time, it would be more helpful if you keep comments that relate to another thread in that thread. I, too, had no clue what you were talking about until you posted the username of a comment in the other thread. I then had to use the search feature to find that thread. Homework is ok, but not knowing that you actually have homework is a bit much.

You're the one that's confused. How many times do you have to be told not to start a new thread on and existing subject before in sinks in?

I concur. If you're going to make a comment about another thread, do it in that thread. You totally lost me. I had no idea what you were talking about.

The hell with all this namby-pamby political correctness. :mad2: :mad2:

If the opposing teams don't like it, then I suggest they run down to Home Depot,m buy some wood and some nails and build a bridge and get over it.

Kudos to the band for giving the 80,000 plus of us lucky enough to be in BDS a WONDERFUL gift...I have never in my life enjoyed a RJ more than that one.

And UT earned it.

Screw 'em if they don't like it.

that some some folks don't have a life outside of this little web world they live in
Sorry so sorry please forgive me I'll do better next time and I'll ask you before I post another thing that might just might be related to something that might be hard to find for some folks. I don't usually have to think before I post as to if in the past two years two months or two days something I have an opinion on might be out there in the vapor of the past post world. I think you owe me an apology.
