This is all just weird...

You know Lou Holtz actually touched on this last night initially when word came out about Meyer's stepping down.
One of the few times Holtz made sense...he said something to the effect "don't make a hasty decision because of something that just happened, just step back and evaluate everything when you're thinking clearly" almost alluding to what happened with the SECCG (the loss & being hospitalized afterwards), the stress of rebuilding of the team after losing so many, Tebow etc, being the reason he thought Meyer was doing this.

It appears Meyer made a hasty decision and now regrets it. It puts Foley in a bit of a fix, because it WILL affect recruiting, and also poses the question of will he hire a new coach, or does he appoint an interim and wait until Meyer feels like returning?

The 'interim coach' has exactly what to look forward to? If he goes out, burns the woods down, and has a whole lot of success next season, he'll have someone breathing down his neck whispering,"Umm... I want my job back." OTOH, if he goes out and lays an egg, the gator nation will be burning him in effigy by the second game of the season. For him, it will be a complete 'no-win' situation.

Wierd.

Once the cat is out of the bag, you cant put it back. I was not happy to see him leave based on the fact that a guy like him forces everyone else to improve their game. But now, with this twist...:lurk5:

Wow.
Yesterday I was willing to give him the benefit of his decision to focus on his family and health. I have always personally sort of liked Urban Meyer.
"My daughter said she's getting her daddy back."
"I didn't want to leave three kids wondering what to do next," yadda yadda, etc., etc., etc.

He was thinking about it and discussing it with his family, doctors and UF folks for over two weeks and then finally Jeremy Foley breaks the news publicly with a statement from him and the UF president.

Now, suddenly, a little break and everything will be okay??

Sorry, but WHAT A CROCK!!

I hope our fine friends in the impartial, factual news media don't accuse him of being a liar, like they did Coach Saban. I am resigning. I am not resigning. Will it be a nationwide "liar story" for weeks and weeks?

I don't think I will have to worry about that, will I?

I know, and that was my point...it won't work unless an assistant is willing to carry the load until then. So what is the point of taking a leave of absence? UF can't sit around and wait for him to come back because no other coach is going there for that experience, and frankly I doubt an assistant will do that.
Meyer just needs to stick to his initial decision, just say "I'm leaving" and go. If at later time he wants back into coaching, he'll have to hope there will be a place for him.
Like Savannah mentioned, the waffling is not something you want your HC to do. Make a decision and go with it.

I don't know what this is all about. Last night he was too sick to coach and now he is not. I'll be willing to bet the farm that Meyer will be coaching next season at Florida. I want him to stay at florida, I think it is great for the SEC and college football.

Meyer borrowed a page from Lame Kitten and discovered a way to get more publicity for his team and school. It's all about being in the headlines, right?

Well, we have about 45 minutes until the ESPN special on Urban's coaching history followed by his "press conference" at 3:30.....

I wonder if there's any contractual difference between UM and Florida if he takes a "leave of absence" as opposed to resigning. Could this just be a PR move to lessen the blow of losing your superstar coach? Maybe UM's decision hasn't changed but he's agreeing to call it a leave of absence so the program can operate under the illusion of UM still being the coach. It certainly wouldn't hurt recruiting.

I wonder how Gator fans feel about 2010 being an interim year. Can we go ahead and put an asterik by it now?
Over on Gatorsports, they aren't happy about it. Most are already writing off the 2010 season, knowing this will kill recruiting, and they don't appear to have any confidence in Adazzio.
