I guess I'll settle for being my own "counsel," since there's just one of me. Don't fool yourself. There were many applicants, including the present HC at LSU...

Thanks for correcting me........hate it when I make stupid mistakes like that. :pDT_Aliboronz_08:

Wonder why we didn't get someone else? In hindshight, might have shortened the "curve" up, a bit.

In Shula's case, he was hired because the prime criterion seemed to be to choose one of "our guys," after the Franchione and Price escapades. If he hadn't been a Bama grad, with a pedigree of being a former revered player, no way he gets offered the job.

i'm glad we went' a different direction this time. Though i think if and when Coach Moore decides to step down Ozzie Newsome would do a good job, but thats a different thread in and of its self.

Don't know what'll come of that. OZ has said numerous times that he'd like to "retire" to the Bama AD job. He's already had a lot of influence behind the scenes, particularly in coach searches. He's had obstacles, kids in school, etc., but I really think he'll be the next AD after CMM decides to retire...

Another factor was when we had to make the hiring decision, few name coaches were available and even fewer were really thrilled at the idea of coming to UA with the scholarship limitations biting ahead of us.

I'm forced to repeat that he was paid very well to come back (first time since graduation), and I think we are still paying big time for his mistakes, so don't count me on his bandwagon... :)
Count me in on your bandwagon .

IMO , as a player Shula will always be remembered for winning some important games but , he was weak-armed and turnover prone enough to blow some big ones as well . He was just the starting QB for Bama at a time when college football began flooding the airways so we were provided with plenty of good memories . JOMO .

I know too damn much about the shop he ran and it absolutely ruins any memories I have of him as a player. The wounds are a little too fresh yet. So, to keep you out of trouble, we'll close this little beauty down and revisit it in a couple of years...
