Has narrowed his choices to only two teams: They are Bama and Virginia, he really loves the fans and atmosphere at Bama. He like Coach Shula and Coach (Sparky) Woods. He likes both head coaches, because they have Pro experience.

A big UVA guy I work with gave me an update from UVA perspective on Simpson's status. I believe it was from a premium UVA site so I'll avoid copy/pasting and try to summarize a little.

In a recent interview, he confirmed that he may take a couple of more official visits, but really believes it will come down to Bama and UVA. He says they are basically even right now. He said Bama had been recruiting him the hardest, but with UVA's latest surge, they are both recruiting him equally.

He laid out some pros for both schools and at least one con for UVA.

UVA: Loves the ACC. Says the SEC is good too, but he's always wanted to play against the Miami's and FSU's. Thinks UVA's football program is really coming up. He said he didn't get to spend enough time with the players though. He got to hang out with 3 guys and they were cool, but he didn't get to spend much time with the whole team.

Bama: Liked that he was able to spend alot of time with alot of the players. Said the players were really cool and were always looking out for him and checking up on him the whole time he was there. He said he really loved the atmosphere there and could tell how important football was in the state.

When asked if Bama's recent signing of 2 running backs affected his decision he said "not at all". Said he still really likes both situations.

He said January would be the earliest he would have a decision.

I personally believe it is imperative that we win the bowl

game and have a great fan showing in Nashville! A win with a big fan showing will make a great impression on Simpson! Also, while we have a few commits from RB's it's not like they signed or even qualified yet. Let's hope they all do, but we've all been around the block and know that some kids just won't qualify.

I hope Simpson commits to Bama because he's the kind of kid we want and a great PLAYER!

I agree. I feel winning the bowl game would be huge for us in recruiting this year just because of how close we are to big name players. If we go out and win by 10 in the bowl game and have 40,000 people there, don't you think kids in Tallahassee, PA, Rouseville, and Keystown would be impressed watching at home. It would have to make them feel better about a decision. Then imagine a week later watching LSU's game and hear how Saban might leave and watching an FSU and UVA loss. If Darby doesn't play we are in TROUBLE no matter how the optimistic people on this board think.

If Darby does not play we are in deep trouble. The D will have to turn it up and Bostick will have to have a great game :biggrin2:

No competitor worth his salt would be scared away from signing because we've already signed a few other RB's. If they're afraid of competition, they have no business at ALABAMA.

I have not heard anything about USC showing any interest....but I have read where M S has shown alot of interest in USC. He sent them film and is holding a visit for them if they offer. IMO this means if they offer he will commit to them. However,I still think it is between UVA and us with UVA a slight edge.I know I would love to get him or M Davis(my personal fav). The best thing we have going now is that Jan.8 visit with MD....I sure hope he makes it and we can sell our program b/c he would play as a true Fr.

USC will most likely get the #1 back in the nation Jonathan Stewart. They also have some current backs on roster. It will be tough for them to Justify too many backs with other needs coming on D. USC could suprise me but I think they hold off and just run with Stewart and a couple of their JUCO players.
