A big UVA guy I work with gave me an update from UVA perspective on Simpson's status. I believe it was from a premium UVA site so I'll avoid copy/pasting and try to summarize a little.
In a recent interview, he confirmed that he may take a couple of more official visits, but really believes it will come down to Bama and UVA. He says they are basically even right now. He said Bama had been recruiting him the hardest, but with UVA's latest surge, they are both recruiting him equally.
He laid out some pros for both schools and at least one con for UVA.
UVA: Loves the ACC. Says the SEC is good too, but he's always wanted to play against the Miami's and FSU's. Thinks UVA's football program is really coming up. He said he didn't get to spend enough time with the players though. He got to hang out with 3 guys and they were cool, but he didn't get to spend much time with the whole team.
Bama: Liked that he was able to spend alot of time with alot of the players. Said the players were really cool and were always looking out for him and checking up on him the whole time he was there. He said he really loved the atmosphere there and could tell how important football was in the state.
When asked if Bama's recent signing of 2 running backs affected his decision he said "not at all". Said he still really likes both situations.
He said January would be the earliest he would have a decision.
