Ahh, yes. My first experience with the old farts telling me to sit down must have been my junior year of high school when I was at an Alabama game in Tuscaloosa. When I got to Alabama, I never had any problems because the student section was stand-up almost all the time anyway.
I think the poster who said that people need to learn how to cheer was dead on. I certainly don't have a problem with anyone who wants to stand the entire game. In fact, more power to 'em. But I definitely think everyone in the stadium should be standing - and making noise - when our defense is on the field. When the offense is out there, do whatever you want to, but be quiet. AND FOR GOD'S SAKES, COULD WE STOP DOING THE WAVE WHILE THE GAME IS GOING ON?. That is so embarassing.
As far as the way you dress, I do agree that it is 'neater' if everyone in the stadium is wearing a particular color (I will be interested to see how the Yell Crew experiment for the Florida game works out), but color coordination isn't what makes a crowd or a stadium intimidating. It is the loudness factor. There have been some loud times in Bryant Denny. The loudest I have ever heard that place is when Charlie Peprah intercepted a pass against UGA in 2002 and returned it for a score to give us the lead late in the game (which we eventually lost). But I have never heard the place rockin' like that. I literally couldn't hear myself talk for a few moments. I am getting goosebumps thinking about that moment right now.
And Bojo, if the people you bring to the game can't handle the things that come with a college football game - and standing up is often a big part of it - then maybe they need to stay home. Gloating about getting fellow Bama fans thrown out of the stadium for standing up too much is pretty pitiful, IMO. I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you want a better view of the game while staying comfortable, stay home and watch on TV. Every Bama game this season will be on TV in some shape or form and it will be much more inexpensive and much less of a hassle for you.
I also disagree with some of you who say that the only thing that is going to make Bryant Denny intimidating is Bama winning games. Yes, that obviously plays a big role in it, but the actions of the fans inside of a football stadium can provide a huge advantage or disadvantage. We as fans can contribute to that regardless of our team's record that particular season.
Last thing (and sorry for some rambling), Mike's Maniacs is terrible. I don't know what I would call your 'organization', but definitely not that. Like a previous poster stated, come up with something that will stand the test of time. And try to make it a stadium-wide thing, not just a student section thing.
