Re: Les Miles now #2 . . .

Wow, paying as much as Stoops - crazy.
Lester is having an amazingly fortunate year. He has had some really crazy things happen that seem to have dropped a shot at a national title in his lap. They say several things must happen for a team to win a national title, and they all seem to be happening for LSU. They have talent; they have experience; they have a good defense (even though they haven't been as good as they should have been); they have been lucky. Those are the ingredients for a national title.

I hate to say it but expect Tubby and Fulmer to move up. Probably Richt, also. I was kinda surprised that Tressel is so far down the list at #10 after the run he's had at OSU. I guess the Big 10 just doesn't believe in paying it's coaches. Look at Paterno - I read somewhere that he only makes a little over $500K a year.

Word around here is that Les's agent was talking with UM all week. he wanted the job, they wanted him. It came down to hard numbers, and Michigan screwed it up by trying to low ball him. This man truly believes he's the best coach in college football, and he got mad. His mouth has always been his worst enemy, it cost him against Arkansas with that rKansas stuff, and it cost him against Stoops when he had his best team at O-State.

I think Miles is gonna regret not going to UM for the rest of his life. However, I think that in his head he will always think he handled the situation perfectly and UM screwed it up. In reality, he should've just focused on his team and handled the situation internally before going through a couple weeks of talks with UM about the job; instead, he overreacted and has already talked himself into a corner.

Either way, I think UM will find a better coach (which isn't saying much in the case of Les Miles) for less than $3.45 mil.

Good googly moogly, I believe old Lester has been shot in the butt with good luck...........repeatedly. I gotta believe that this is a move that LSU will eventually regret as Lester will, in due time be revealed as just being a pretty good coach, not a great one. In the SEC you can't depend on being able to out-athlete the competition year after year, not with the recruiting classes Richt, Meyer and Coach Saban are gonna be reeling in. It will be interesting to revisit this thread in about 3 years. :BigA:

Good for Miles. Like I said in another thread, I'm glad he's staying at LSU because the man simply makes me laugh. I know, it is selfish to want him to stay just for my own entertainment, but he isn't alone, I felt the same way about Nutt ;)

Notice who #1 on that list is? Coach Saban. What is the difference between 4 mil and 3.45 mil when both is a lot of money. Why didn't Bertman make it 4.01mil for Miles? I guess it may be that Saban is the respected one who deserves it. I know it is a silly analogy but what the heck.

On a side note, all the coaches are overpaid. It is sad when entertainers make more than people who shape the world.

I don't know, those who shape the world don't seem to doing such a bang-up job.

Under-acheived with loads of talent this year and looks to still back into the MNC picture. Wow.. Must have a leprechaun in the pocket.
Indeed interesting.
To be continued......

That's his base salary - he gets paid for his TV and radio shows separately. Most college coach's university salaries are under $500k...

Funny how everyone reports Saban's salary at $4M - IIRC it's $3.5M this year, and escalates yearly. If he stays the full 8 years, he'll average $4M/year...

Well it looks like it going to come out of the taxpayers of Louisiana pockets if he is going to be making that much. However much that is...

In all aspects except one, Les Miles is a heck of a coach. He runs a clean program. The kids graduate from college. They don't get in a lot of trouble. He represents the school well. He keeps his pants on. He's a pretty good recruiter. The only thing he doesn't do too well is make sane decisions down the stretch.

I am convinced that all of LSU's losses during his tenure are directly related to one or more of his unbelievably dumb decisions. From his stubborn insistence on running the football against a stacked Auburn defense last year, to calling timeouts late in the 4th quarter against Arkansas this year.

It reminds me of Alabama's 10-win seasons in 1999 and 2005. The teams won 10-games despite coaching decisions that should have doomed them.

I hope, for our sake, that Miles is as stubborn as he is honest.

That is hilarious to me. I'll say this, he had better not keep wasting talent the way he did this season.

Ya'll make me laugh with all this wasting talent talk.

More talented than Ok, Ga, USC, Fla? All these teams have recruited as well or better than LSU the last five years.

Look at the injuries on defense we've had, and did you notice we played the SECCG without our starting QB? USC lost to Stanford when their QB was injured. Oregon lost without their starting QB and look what happened to WV last night when theirs went down.
