I think Miles is gonna regret not going to UM for the rest of his life. However, I think that in his head he will always think he handled the situation perfectly and UM screwed it up. In reality, he should've just focused on his team and handled the situation internally before going through a couple weeks of talks with UM about the job; instead, he overreacted and has already talked himself into a corner.

Either way, I think UM will find a better coach (which isn't saying much in the case of Les Miles) for less than $3.45 mil.

Well he is 33-6 in three seasons at LSU: 11 wins per season with a SEC title and a 2-0 bowl record. Say what you want, but that is in the same league as 70 in 7 by Stallings. He might have inherited a talented team, but so did Dubose and he hardly had the success Les has enjoyed.

Oh, and he has his team in the national title game. I think if LSU thinks he's worth big money, who can blame them?
I think 33-6 speaks for itself. Averaging 11-2 is more than average. I think Lester has made some highly questionable decisions, but it is hard to argue with 33, possibly 34, wins in three seasons. I have made the argument that he hasn't won any championships, but now he has. He has an SEC title and maybe a chance to get a national title. Now, is he good enough to keep them at the top. We shall see. Next year should be fun with Nutt at Ole Miss, a new coach at Arkansas (maybe Tubbs); Florida and Georgia should both be very strong; Bama's rebuilding process continues; Spurrier is always good for some entertainment.

I wish the SEC fans would quit all the hatred and animosity and just enjoy the show. Of course, I would enjoy the show much more if Bama would get back to playing hard-hitting defense and winning games. Roll Tide.

Does everyone think Coach Miles will sign his contract extension?

Just Curious.
If Les Miles turns down a Michigan offer, I would be surprised. He played for Bo and coached at Michigan. An opportunity like this may not come his way again. JMHO, if offered Coach Miles will go to Michigan. With no Championship Game to win in the big 10, his path to a NC their would be much easier.

Just the Pro's and Con's of leaving. Pro: $/and No Big 10 Championship Game
Con: $/SEC Championship Game

If Coach Miles stays at LSU, then it snows in Key West this year. Should I go out and buy my coat now? :seeya:

I gotta believe that this is a move that LSU will eventually regret as Lester will, in due time be revealed as just being a pretty good coach, not a great one. In the SEC you can't depend on being able to out-athlete the competition year after year, not with the recruiting classes Richt, Meyer and Coach Saban are gonna be reeling in. It will be interesting to revisit this thread in about 3 years. :BigA:

An SEC championship and an BCSNC appearance and you ostensible Cassandras are still wailing. Find a new refrain.

You just mentioned a few guys essentially missing about one game each. That is the exact definition of a few guys missing a few games.

And it's not about credit. It seems like you always want to paint the people around here as hating LSU and always talking about bad about them and putting them in a bad light, but I do not see that at all. The discussion around here is very civil and respectful, and nearly everyone -- even Auburn and Tennessee -- are given a fair shake. And honestly I think you know that, otherwise you wouldn't even waste your time writing 500+ posts on a board that is supposedly full of people just wanting to put your team down.

The fact of the matter is that while extremely talented and experienced, all the while not having particularly bad injury luck and essentially all of the key games at home, LSU nevertheless lost twice to grossly inferior teams. A 7-5 Kentucky team beat LSU, and then a 7-4 Arkansas team, complete with a lame-duck head coach who was about to resign, came in and beat LSU on Senior Day in Tiger Stadium. Beyond that, it's the games that somehow you guys barely won. After trailing 59 minutes against Florida, somehow won. After trailing 45 minutes against Auburn, including down inside ten seconds, somehow won. After trailing the entire second half against Alabama, somehow won. And trailed Tennessee most of the way, yet won when Tennessee imploded. And yes I know you guys won the SEC, but as most have realized it was very much a down year for the SEC, and Tennessee was arguably the worst team to ever make the SEC Championship Game, and the victory there was much less convincing than what Cal, Florida, and Alabama did against that same team.

I think most people look at LSU and say they are a good team, but far from great, and that you guys are lucky as hell, and nothing more, to be in the national championship game. And I think that's a fair analysis of the situation.

Again, the discussion around here is always respectful and civil, and everyone, including your Bayou Bengals, gets a fair shake. It just so happens that in this case the objective stance taking by most doesn't exactly mesh with the LSU homer doctrine that this 2007 LSU team is truly great. That doesn't mean that we all hate LSU -- I don't, nor do the overwhelming majority here at TideFans -- and thus don't give them their proper "credit." And I must say again, if you really think that, I don't see why you have spent so much time posting here among a bunch of people that you think hate your team and are always putting them down.
cliff notes?

How have you lasted since July??:p_eyes: Goodbye...and thanks for helping me to understand all the LSU hate from some of these guys.
Hey Fishhead, I think the door hit him where the good Lord split him, hang around a while longer. (Drats, I missed the juicy details before kickout, errr, kickoff!)

It's amazing what winning (barely) a single conference championship will get you these days. What will they give kingfish if he wins the NC?
See below...he's getting exactly what his previous contract said he would get...just took the long way around.:p_lol:

His previous contract stated that if he won the SEC, which he did, that he would be in the top 3 in the SEC as far as salary. He is just that...with Saban at $4mil, and subUrban Meyer at $3.25 mil. Miles is in the top three of the conference, which just happens to also be in the top 3 in the nation.:pDT_popc1:
His previous contract also stated that he would be top 3 in the nation if he was to win an MNC, which he now has the opportunity to do...but like I said, top 3 in the SEC = top 3 in the country.

And could that wish not also be the other way around? Hmmmm, wait, then again maybe not as honest ?!?!
Come on, now. We have no reason whatsoever to question Les Miles' integrity. He is running a clean program and never been anything but honest with players, fans and the media.

While he has his blonde moments on the sidelines, he is a straight shooter.

Was he being honest during the "#@*% Alabama" speech?

I said on the thread about "We haven't been beaten in regulation" that...of all the things he gets criticized for on here, that's the ONE thing I agree with you all on. He made a big, STUPID mistake there...and I wish he hadn't. HOWEVER, I would be willing to bet that that's exactly what he was feeling at the time...so yes, he was being honest then.
