I support the players 100% and I want to them to succeed. The issue has nothing to do with them at all. The question is whether this program is in better shape now than it was when Gaspard took over: the answer is no. The assertion that "scholarships are different" and "equipment is different" as some sort of justification for mediocrity, however, is absurd. We have the same scholarship limitations as the Mississippi schools, and as long as they succeed, that's just not a viable excuse. Why would anyone want to settle for being inferior to Mississippi? Referencing changes in "equipment" as an excuse is ridiculous. It's not like some teams are allowed to swing minus-5's and we're being forced to use wood bats.
And why is mention of the "glory years" such a bad thing anyway? I'd consider 2006 a "glory year", and that wasn't very long ago. We were SEC Champions and the #1 National Seed. This program was once one of the top five in the nation. Now, we're not even in the top five of the SEC West (not talking about the current standings).
My apologies to bench and others whom I have offended with my desire to see this program restored to respectability. After all, I'm just an elderly, morbidly obese alcoholic anyway.
