We're exactly where we stood on the night of the 2016 election - one of these two teams is going to win the World Series.I know Braves fans don't want to hear this but PHIL is a good team and definitely have the horses to win this thing. Momentum is a power thing, you would think ATL fans of all fans would know this. You know how many PHIL/NYM fans who thought the Braves had "no chance" against Houston last year?
I mean PHIL has gone to StL, then ATL then to SD and took it to all three teams (sorry Braves fans), going to Houston is not going to be an issue for a team that got their mojo working right now. I know Cheastros will open as the favorite but my prediction is Phillies in 6 and I shudder at writing that.
But it makes me smirk to think that Philly is good enough to get to the World Series but not good enough to be the Cubs. Ha.
Besides how mad would that make Mutts fans? Watching the Nats, Braves and Phillies win titles in a short period of time, while the Mutts are watching the Nats/Braves and Phillies win those titles and not doing anything about it would *chefskiss*. Heck every team in the NL East, yes that includes the Marlins, have all won titles since NYM last title.
Philly is NOT "a good team."
They are "the team that got hot at the right time."
Indeed, they're a lot like Atlanta when the Braves reeled off 14 wins in a row back in June. Sometimes it works - see the 1985 Royals, 1996 NY Yankees and 2004 Boston Red Sox.
More often - it doesn't. See the 1951 Giants, 1993 Braves (51-17....and didn't even win the LCS), 2007 Colorado Rockies (hot in September right up until Game One of the WS).
(I don't mean to impugn the 96 Yankees, but the shine of the 98-00 Yankees covers the fact that they were not in any way in Atlanta's league in 1996; hell, they had the good fortune of Baltimore taking Cleveland out for them; YES, they were much better later).
Philly is hot but let me remind everyone that Houston is perched to be the 1976 Cincinnati Reds here, who tore through the post-season without losing a single game, and wiped out a team that won 4 of 5 division titles and a team that won the next two World Series.
And Houston's pitching (just with Verlander) is MUCH better than those 76 Reds' pitching was, although it remains to be seen how many HOFers are on the Stros.
I'm pulling for Houston - which is betraying my Texas Rangers fandom but sometimes a man's gotta do what he's gotta do and make sacrifices for the greater good.
