Perhaps I am being too optimistic (yes, I know, that's my biggest flaw) but I think this will work out alright. The quick response makes brain damage seem very unlikely. I think he'll make something close to a full recovery even if he doesn't play football anymore.

The medical staff at the Paycor Stadium were very well-prepared. Does anyone know - or have an educated opinion - whether the other NFL stadiums would have had the same level (or better) of expertise and care?

I'm just curious - not trying to start a big debate or controversy.

Thanks!

Not sure but I’m going to go ahead and say that if they don’t they’re already working on it…from what I understand that was as good as it gets.

I read this week that every team is required to have an emergency action plan for this type of event and to exercise it (I think twice a year). The plan must include a Level I trauma center. Whether Cincinnati’s plan is better or worse than the other team’s, I don’t know.

Bills signed former UA DB Jared Mayden today from the Jets practice squad.

The Bills began their practice week on Wednesday with a walk-through and team meetings. They later made a roster transaction to help the safety group that will be without Damar Hamlin, signing Jared Mayden off the New York Jets practice squad and releasing veteran cornerback Xavier Rhodes in a corresponding move. Mayden also spent time on the Bills practice squad earlier this season.

I've felt for some time that a return to football is remote, even if he survives. I think there are some underlying conditions...

Being an NFL player is all he knows and all he has wanted to do all his life. We have people saying Tua should hang it up due to his concussions. But you know he won’t.
There's a great disparity in a concussion and what happened to Hamlin. Hamlin was literally at death's door, and for all we know, he still is.

You may be right. We'll have to wait and see, but my guess is Hamlin never plays again if he makes a full recovery. I don't think there is much chance for a full recovery at this point.
