Have yall heard about "Operation 'Phant?"

A friend of mine goes to BOL and they have been talking about it over there.

I have been saying/asking for years why we do not get one. Heck, the fertilizer sells to the Barners could defray alot of the costs.

I would love to see a real Big AL. Speaking of which; what would we call our real elephant mascot? Big Al, Jumbo, ..., what do you guys think about all of this? :BigA: :BigA: :BigA: :BigA:

No way.

1. Elephants are social animals. Having only one would be cruel.

2. The cost for such upkeep (including the salaries of animal specialists) and the space needed would be prohibitive.

3. Why do we need one?

Jerry Clower played for Miss State. He had a funny story about an elephant from a circus being on the sidelines when they played at Denny Stadium one year. I don't know if it was true.

Because Auburn has an eagle, LSU has a tiger, UT has a hound, UGa has a dawg, MSU has dog, USC has a rooster and WE ARE BETTER THAN ALL OF THEM!

Seriously, your first two points definitely need to be considered. Maybe a private citizen with more money than sense can own and manage our elephant for us, like Siler does the bulldog at UGa (it's his dog). :BigA: :BigA: :BigA: :BigA:

Nobody knows the trouble you would see.

First off, elephant handlers have one of the highest death and injury rates of all occupations. It isn't because pachyderms are mean. They've just careless about where they step or lean sometimes.

If you want a bigger elephant presence, how about two or more guys in one costume, instead of just one Big Al????:conf2:

Okay, idea number 2:

A rubber pneumatic elephant can be inflated to the size of a regular animal, then deflated for storage. It would be impressive at game time and would neither eat nor poop. No one would get killed either.

They used to keep a small elephant on the Quad. All of the reasons stated are good ones not to do it, and they experienced most of them. You talk about pledge hazing....

Actually, for the elephant connection, I wish the University would explore helping out the elephant sanctuary they have in middle Tennessee. But even those people, who are trained to deal with elephants and do so every day run a risk. One of the "keepers" got killed out there last year.

I don't care if it is a "trained" domesticated pachyderm...

Many loud noises and tons of screaming fans plus an agitated elephant spells multiple trips to DCH and national embarrassment on CBS, ESPN and of course, youtube! :)

LOL

(I think it's a bad idea)

What about a crimson wave pool? Retractable roof for the early warm games and then the roof and heated pool for the cooler games?

All you detractors are destroying a boyhood dream.

Big Al might be real, but he is NOT really an elephant. He looks like a freaking caricature. His trunk needs help; not Viagra help, but maybe a little starch. Burt Reynolds worked with one in "Smokey and the Bandit II" and he lived to sleep with Loni Anderson.

Come on guys, where is the love? How about we rent one from that place in Tenn and bring it in on game day and keep it outside the stadium right where the visiting team gets off their buses. When they get off the bus we make the elephant to his thing and scare the crap out of them. When the game is over they can take the elephant back to its home until the next home game.:BigA: :BigA: :BigA: :BigA:

An elephant is completely different from a bulldog or a bood hound. This has disaster written all over it. And the way Alabama is attacked in the media right now, this would just add fuel to the fire.
