I wouldn't start him after his Management (Parents) intervened in the last situation. It's a power thing.

looks like mama & daddy are runnin the show down there...no wonder these arkansas fans keep coming on here and beggin us to take their coach.

I think he'd better transfer. His little power struggle with Nutt failed. At least he still has a red-shirt he can use.

WWCBD?

(What would Coach Bryant do?)
I don't recall him ever starting a freshman at quarterback. Come to think of it, he never played a freshman at quarterback.

If Coach Bryant had what Houston Nutt has, he'd have consistantly thrown the football between 3 to 7 times a game, and it would not matter who the quarterback was anyway. That team would be undefeated right now under Coach Bryant.

You can check around, but I think that's accurate.

Freshmen were not eligible to play varsity in........

Coach Bryants time. Maybe the last couple of years of his tenure but not before.

How could he start him?? If he did, it'd send a signal to every parent of a high-value recruit to come complain to the AD anytime they don't like the playcalling.

Kudos to CHN (and I NEVER thought I would say that!) for standing up to MM.

Makes me VERY glad that we didn't get the kid.

Everyone who had anything to say about Shula's recruiting said that he was honest and straightforward. As such, I don't believe he would have led recruits and parents to expect something he couldn't deliver. Now that approach might not deliver every hot recruit, but it heads off situations like the one at Arkansas. If Mustain had come to Alabama, I doubt we'd have seen the Mustains in Mal's office griping about the offense.

Incidentally, one of the kids from Springdale whose parents are complaining is Ben Cleveland. Ben is a true freshman tight end, and caught the game winning touchdown pass from Springdale classmate Mitch Mustain to beat Alabama in overtime on national television. After seeing the look on his face after that heroic moment, it boggles the mind to think that he and his family have any problem with the way the team is run.

I don't know. They would've had something to say about the "Red Zone" and the "Jumbo Package". Some parents are just like that!
