Just a thought about the modern recruiting process...
Do you all remember the days when bear would offer 80 scholarships in one class and we would sign tons and tons of blue chip athletes. Our second and third string guys could have probably started at another school. In the modern recruiting world this is not so. Every team around the country gets talent because every team can only sign 25 players. The results of this were that it leveled the playing feild a bit for the smaller schools and it made it much, much harder to have a dynasty. BUT when a team has a player a step above everyone else then it makes everyone on the team look better because gameplans are made just to stop that player. A good example of this is how Alabama went 11-3 under dubose even though he wasnt the greatest of head coaches. The reason for the sucess of this season was because of Shaun Alexander and Chris Samuals. These guys were amazing athletes and took a lot of the load to carry the team. Last year we didnt have a player like that but i thought we were coached extremely well sorry as i am to say that. One problem with this theory is that i think if teams get a lot of good players that could develop into great ones is that the young kids dont play much so most of them arent as pressured to improve their game(Can you say UF). Alabama needs to build up good connections and start winning some close games if we want to have a shot at that kind of player. Shula WILL take us back to the top but its gonna take TIME, be patient... one thing that really irritates me if the woman named Janet who writes into sound off about how Alabama needs to fire Mike Shula and how has Alabama resorted to hiring a coach with no credentials at all. Where the hell have you been? no one wanted the job at Alabama, all the good coaches had already got jobs by the time we fired Mike Price(good move to fire), we are about to be killed because of scholarship reductions and ALL the fans like you expect you to win. You need to shut your mouth Janet. Sorry about the rambling at the end just some thoughts.
