I will be honest, I don't think the game was truly as close a contest as the score indicated.
I've posted this a couple of places, but I think you're the only ones who actually watched the game with a trained enough eye to have seen this.
1.) Eddie Lacy, IMO, broke the goal line. That was the same set of downs where AJ threw the pick in the end zone. If Lacy did cross the line, that is +7 in favor of Alabama as we did not end up scoring on that drive.
2.) The non-PI call. This one truly bugged me. Not only did it lead to a long FG attempt that UGA ran back for a TD (-7 if this is removed) but we would have had 1st down in UGA territory (+3 / +7 at that stage as we were moving the ball). Bare minimum that is a 7 point swing, but a potential 10-14 point swing.
So, take off the 7 from UGA's FG block, and add either 7, 10, or 14 for the Tide... and the score becomes more reflective of our offensive domination:
39-21 / 42-21 / 46-21
Also, keep in mind that while UGA had 394 yards, 74 came on a final drive that should have been meaningless if not for the refs. That's holding one of the best offenses in college football to 320 yards and 21 points.
Please, please tell me I'm not the only one who noted this?
