Well first, the phrase is "goody two shoes." It comes from a 18th century English children's book. "Goody" was smug when she found a second shoe after living with only one.

Secondly, seems I remember someone important to Alabama football saying something about acting like you've been there before. I guess he was a goody two shoes too, huh?

I love that cheer!

I just love the Rammer Jammer cheer. We do need it in pre-game.
However, I did'nt sing the cheer last night. It's just me. I loved hearing it. It proclaimed a sense of "We're on the road back-" more than jeering mtsu.

It was a hell of a lot better than the lame cheer the pregame cheerleader was trying to do to get the crowd riled up....We're behind you, Bama. So. Go. Go.....sheesh. I think he quit when he realized it was a solo.

Also, the timing of everything pregame is still lame. So many awards at all the wrong times. I'm not sure we know the purpose of pregame--or maybe it's me. It certainly isn't to rev the crowd up.

decent?

And I'm sorry, but only giving up 22 yards of offense in an entire half of football sounds like beating the hell out of somebody to me, no matter who it is. 22 yards.

Really? I guess that's my problem. I didn't know what it meant to beat the he!! out of someone. I thought it meant dominating them the whole game -- not having a decent half against a second tier team from a lower tier conference.
Florabama, giving up 22 yards in one half is only decent. What would a good game be? 10 total yards? I dont care who you are playing if you only give up 22 yards in one half that is excellent.

Florabama, if giving up 22 yards in one half is decent, what is good? 10 yards?Sorry but i think giving up 22 yards in one half against anbody is excellent.

The only thing I will add to this thread is did any of you think that teams might get offended if we DIDNT sing it? I got to know several OU fans after my trip to Norman, and their trip here. They flat out told me that if we had won they would EXPECT us to sing it. Remember now, we played them is when the main debate over the cheer started, so it was a VERY hot topic.

They looked at it like this, it is part of our tradition... its a part of college football. If we had beaten them and NOT sung it, they would have gotten offended... as if they wasnt good enough to merit the cheer. Ofcourse, they didnt have to hear it, so that might also have a lot to do with it as well.

Man, you can say that again! That was a bright spot, but there were other spots that were not so bright. Even the players said they made some mistakes. Brodie threw it up for grabs a few times and even got a pick. Here's a few more stats that worry me a little if we don't get better:

3rd-Down Conversions
Bama 4/11; MT 3/12

4th Down Conversions
Bama – 0/1

Time of Possession
Bama 33.06
MT 26.54

Rush yards 133 from 4 RBs.

The Students Pay and have a Say

I am not offended, but I do think its out of place at times. To sing Rammer Jammer after beating MTSU or Western Kentucky is like taking candy from a baby then bragging about how tough a man you are. I understand its mostly college kids doing it and that's OK -- I just don't join in unless we beat somebody worth braggin about. Beat Tennessee and I'll be screaming it to the top of my lungs :)

florabama,

I was with an old friend last night (Charles Lennard). He has been a huge MTSU fan for years. After the game last night he and his wife and I and my wife flew back to Louisville and had a late dinner at Ruth Chris Steak House. We talked about what we could do to help the people of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. The game nor the Rammer Jammer Cheer was an issue or a topic of discussion. It is not that damn important. Charles is with the Corps of Engineers writing a proposal to build sea walls and levee's to help stop flooding along the Gulf during Hurricanes. Our discussion was about something that is important.

Since the Students Pay to go to Alabama then they have a say in a Tradition that has been there for years. If they wish to Yell Rammer Jammer and that is not appropriate to some, take it up with the Student Council. I would not hold my breath on that one. This thread sounds like the knotheads at the NCAA concerning Indian Mascots. "You can have the Mascot during the regular season but not during post season because it is inappropriate. As this doesn't effect the Native Americans during Regular Season just in Post Season! 91 percent of all Native Americans polled said they wanted their Name left in place. Imagine THAT.

Let me see if I have this right.

STUDENTS and Tide Fans should only SAVE the Cheer for special occasions and games deemed worthy of the Rammer Jammer Cheer. So the MTSU fans are not worthy of our tradition because its the believe of some that it is reserved for only those worthy? Like UT., and special occasions. I hope you understand. By the way please use the back door on your way out.

Any MTSU fans reading this please ignore it. We will not exclude your fans from any college or University of Alabama Traditions. That would be considered rude, biased, prejudice and selective exclusion.

The cheer is not going anywhere. Deal with it.

I wonder sometimes if there isn't a vocal minority in the fan base that would "class" us right out of any sort of home field advantage. We don't have much of one now.

Why don't you try reading my quote you put on this post, BI. I said essentially the same thing you just did. Geez, I wonder why every opinion one voices around here comes down to whether or not you're an Auburn fan in disquise, a closet Communist, an NCAA agent, or just too stupid to understand "what's really important."

I think from now on, I'm going to include with every post a disclaimer which includes my NCAA connections, political philosophy, party affiliation, racial heritage and a signed affidavit stating first that "I am of age, and I understand there may be more important things in life than the subject of this post, "
and second that "I am not a secret Auburn fan," and third that "I am a true Alabama fan and have been for many years, " and fourth "I have shamelessly and willfully participated in the singing of the song known as "Rammer Jammer" on previous occassions.

OK, here goes:

NCAA connections -- none
NCAA sympathies -- none
Political Philosophy -- Strict Constitutional Conservative
Party Affiliation -- Republican (I have never voted Democrat, but I may leave the Republican party because it's too liberal).
Racial Heritage -- I am a dying breed -- a White Male.
Age -- 50
I agree and understand that there may be more important things in life than the subject of this post. With that said, I willfully choose to post. I am not being forced by the NCAA or Auburn fans or Aliens to make this post.
I am a true Alabama fan and have been all of my life.
I understand that there are more important things in life
I have shamelessly sung the song/cheer known as "Rammer Jammer" on many previous occassions.

Why doesn't everyone include something like this on every post, and we can avoid a lot of the "you're really a barner, liberal, NCAAzi, communist, racist, dummy, (insert yours here ___________) rebuttals to posts on Tidefans (well, maybe we can't eliminate "dummy." That one probably needs to stay).

Just so you'll know BI, I am going to Mississippi next week to work on a hurricane relief team. I have family in Mobile, Pascagoula, Laurel, and New Orleans. They are all OK, but my sister in NO still doesn't know if she has a house left. My own city was nearly destroyed by Ivan. I think I understand the gravity of the situation there.

As I said in the quote you posted, if you want to sing Rammer Jammer when we beat up a second tier team -- knock yourself out -- I AM NOT OFFENDED, but I will save my voice for the Auburns of the world.

Now excuse me. I have a meeting with Phillip Fulmer and Miles Brand at Toomer's Corner.

I had my 8 yr old cousin with me at the game. I personally think the ramma jamma cheer is hilarious though. However, I think the cheer is offensive to little kids' ear. It is the same offense with the student yelling BULLS&*^ after a bad call. However, the students pay a lot of money for them to be able to yell that and have fun. There is really no way to stop it, unless you put their parents right beside them. Even then some of their parents would be yelling it with them. I say, let em have fun though.

I can't believe we have yet ANOTHER thread on the Rammer Jammer topic. And it's the same people saying the same things over and over and over.

I went to the game with some MTSU friends. They weren't bothered by the song and laughed. They understood tradition and school songs.

What shows our Bama attitude more is how the individual fans treat them. They wore blue shirts and did their best to cheer up their team. Our fans around them were considerate and talked with them about good plays and expectations for the MTSU team. That's what people talk about when they return home, is the class of the individual fan.

Besides if they had won, there would have been plenty of crowing in the blue section.

That is what is important, but I hope it goes without saying that visiting fans can expect to be treated courteously and considerately.
