I said it in a different thread a week or so ago: I believe we may be seeing the begining of the end of the NCAA. With these types of rullings - -how long are we (the football public) going to put up with this BS????

There's an inherent danger with the word "fair". I actually hate the word itself, because it is deceptive in nature. There are assumptions made by both the the speaker and listener, in which both have the same idea of what 'fairness' is, and how it is implemented.

Let me preface the following by saying that this is not meant to be political, just the easiest example I can come up with. The tax system. Everyone agrees that taxes should be 'fair', but how many people have different ideas of which system is "fair'? I could list several different systems of taxation, and the merits for the fairness of each of them, but each system would have detractors claiming the 'unfairness' of that particular system.

Another example: some people might think it 'unfair' that Alabama has 13 National Championships and 22 SEC championships, while other schools have much less. In order to make it 'fair', some people would argue that until all other schools can equal that accomplishment, Alabama shouldn't get any more.

Whenever someone tells you they are being 'fair', make sure they have the same understanding of what fairness is and how they plan to implement it. Don't just assume their idea of fair is the same as yours.

It's time to bury the NCAA (RIP)! Maybe a class action lawsuit against the NCAA by all universities in legitimate conferences.

Let's see how much money they spend in defending themselves.

End it: divide all assets equitably among schools in legitimate conferences.

Then, start a new with an organization that will be EQUITABLE in the treatment of ALL universities and individuals.
LOL! "Meet the new boss.... Same as the old boss."

I wish you were right, but I do not think that will ever happen. First, the NCAA is accountable to no one. Oh, I know some or all College Presidents in theory can call them to account for their actions, but they never have. All you have to do is take a peek at OSU and their record of offenses (without penalty) over the past decade to see the NCAA can and will continue to do whatever they wish to do without fear of having to answer for their actions. OSU over ten years. This is not something which just started with Cam and Tatgate.

Many think they are on the defensive right now -- but they are not, unless you call putting up a press release on their website. Boy, they are shaking in their shoes, no doubt. Their defense? The media and general public create myths which are not true. IT IS THEIR FAULT, NOT OURS. Yes, I can see they are really worried about being called to task by College Presidents.

There is no way to get rid of the NCAA because a majority of College Presidents will never have the guts to do it. Seriously, they will never reach an agreement because, for one thing, they would have to come up with a replacement for the NCAA. They can't just ban it.

This is OLD OLD OLD tiresome news (I'm not complaining that yall are complaining). It's like complaining about the IRS or Federal government... NOTHING AND I MEAN NOTHING!!!! will make a difference, save an act of God or when enough/the right college presidents get fed up. Translation... when the ncaa starts costing the wrong people money things will change, but not until then and it appears they've got that covered! Slam someone every 5-10 years to flex the muscles and voila... instant credibility with the media folk. ESPN etc. won't slam em too hard for too long because it means too much $$$ to em.

Just a thought, but by the NCAA letting OSU slide by letting the "tattooed" players remain eligible for their bowl game, but declaring them ineligible for the first five games next season, is that just the NCAA's way of circumventing any possibility that OSU would have to vacate any wins for this year?

We may win as many BCS titles as possible, but OSU will always be NCAA's favorite kid. I don't want to beat the dead horse, but textbooks rule is the more stupid one of the two...
Auburn's NCAA saga is yet to be written. Accordingly, at this point in time Auburn doesn't factor in my consideration of whether the NCAA has behaved fairly. I look at Bama-textbooks vs. OSU-tattoo/money. Our wins were vacated; OSU's weren't. End of story.

That might be the end of the story but what about the beginning? Bama was on probation when textbookgate came up. OSU should already be on probation too, now as tatgate unfolds, but they are not.

I would really like the NCAA to explain the difference between Minnesota's "academic fraud - undermined the bedrock foundation of a university and operation of its intercollegiate athletics program," and the NCAA's stance that it has "no authority over academics" concerning Tennessee; both of which concerned essays written for athletes.
