I attended that game. Been going since the '70's and I swear that was the loudest crowd i've ever heard! Anywhere!!
I agree -- the first quarter of that game remains the loudest continuous and sustained crowd noise I've experienced at BDS or anywhere else. We've had moments that have equaled it -- certainly the Cody block at the end of the 2009 UT game, for example -- but those have been more short bursts of noise. Nothing like the ear-splitting conditions basically the whole time Florida had the ball, but especially the first quarter. And yes, the Prothro injury pretty much gutted all the joy of the win.

And the attendance was only about 85,000. The North end zone was under construction.

Good teams dont get blown out. Good teams battle back even on a really really bad day. Think about the worst bama efforts since 2008.... South Carolina 2010 comes to mind as the worst for me. it felt like we were getting torched. we lost by 14. The worst beat down we've taken in the last 5 years was by 14 points. Could you IMAGINE the nuclear meltdown that would happen if bama went down 35-0 and lost 42-14 only because the tide scored on the backups?!?!

Notre Dame had a great season and should be proud. But, in no way were they ready to play with Bama. The NC game was similar to a prize fighter getting put in the championship fight too early.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
I'll never forget that year when we started out undefeated and seeing Brodie Croyle on the front page of SI "Bama's Back!". I also never forget being at the gym that next week and having an LSU fan come up to me (after seeing my shirt) and telling me "Bama's overrated and they'll never get back to where they used to be. The landscape of college football has changed." We would go on to lose to LSU and Auburn and of course I had to endure the following weeks of "I told you so's" from the tool bag.

But from 2008-present I've reminded Mr. Toolbag as often as I can if he remembers what he told me.

I agree, I took my daughter to that game and just before the kicked I told her "If they block this kick, this place will come apart" I was in the US Air Force for 20 years and have NEVER heard anything that loud.
