Chris Fowler said he loved it too, but he said it a little sheepishly as I think he realized how it sounded when he said it. Of course, he'd love it. Less work for him.

I hate the new rules, but if we are going to do it, do it right and add the 2 minute warning.
They went too far. Take away the clock stop on 1st down is one thing but do that and also say we are not going to stop the clock when someone goes out of bounds is just plain stupid.

Like someone else said, seems like a toy bowl rule.

Never got confirmation does going out of bounds not stop the clock anymore???

As long as we are screwing with the rules can we adapt the NFL rule and say you need to be touched after falling to the ground?
I've never understood why people would like this rule. To me, if you can't keep your feet, you shouldn't be allowed to stand up and keep going. Why should someone have to touch someone who falls down?

Yep. It's stupid to watch a player run out of bounds and before he's back to the huddle the clock is running.

I'm telling you, it is going to have a HUGE impact on the game.
Yeah, I am glad that first downs no longer stop the clock, but stepping out of bounds should still stop it in my opinion. If they would just get rid of replay and ridiculous targeting, I would be happy. That would save more time than getting rid of actual game time.

Agreed. Literally every other level of football, the player is down if he falls. The NFL is supposed to be the best players in existence, they shouldn’t be falling.

The clock running when players run out of bounds is just plain stupid. What are we, soccer? This needs to be undone. The other big changes need to be:

1) Make reviews ONLY happen on scores and coaches challenges (give them 2 per half and they get to keep their flag if call is overturned).

2) No challenge reviews on spots until/unless we embed a chip on each end and middle of the ball that can pinpoint EXACT location on field to 1mm. Exception would be to review knee/elbow down on goalline plays. They're trying to address length of game with the clock running thing when the root cause is a) 147387 commercials and tv timeouts and b) reviews taking forever.

3) speaking of reviews, the review should be limited to 15 seconds. If they can't tell in 15 seconds what call should be, then the ruling on field should stand. All reviews should be from the booth. No ref running to the sideline to review the play on an iphone sized screen. That's just dumb. If game is not broadcast, then no reviews are done. Nobody cares about non-broadcast games, anyway. That's why they're not on TV.

4) the targeting rule HAS to be changed. I'm not sure how now that it's been unleashed, but I saw multiple calls in the first games where players were thrown out (or not) that were very erroneous outcomes. Nobody understands it - coaches, refs, players, and especially fans.

As you can tell, reviews are not my favorite.

I'll probably have some more changes after watching today's action.

I like the no double timeouts rule.

I love those ideas because excessive replay and terrible targeting calls have made the game hard to watch for me. I would change your number 3 to 10 seconds. If it is obvious, it shouldn't take that long. If it isn't, it should stay as called on the field and move on. Also, please get rid of the extremely stupid use of the rules "expert". Insane! Okay, my blood pressure is up now so I'll move on. Roll Tide!

YES, YES, YES!!!

Stupid clock rules and get the "targeting" and review rule changed to some kind of reasonableness!

OR, if we have running clocks then change the game to 90 minutes like kick ball.

Change the 5-yard man downfield rule to one yard down the field and start calling offensive pass interference. They change that I would probably be in favor changing the running clock back. I have never heard or seen a single good reason for the lineman down the field rule to be what it is in college football. None at all. If College football is supposed to be preparing these Qb's and lineman for the NFL then they should probably have to deal with the same limitations. In fact it would probably help develop QB's and lineman more.

Not to hijack the thread about the clock rules, but part of the problem with the excessive reviews is it seems half the time the booth rules official has to take 3 minutes to explain all the considerations (and the whole time I'm thinking this is too complicated) and then he'll offer his opinion about what the call will be and then the on field official will contradict/disagree with the official ruling about half the time! Even the "experts" who are taught what to look for don't even agree.

It's such a subjective rule that nobody completely understands and frankly, I'm sick and tired of it!!!

In addition, it's the most cruel rule in football since the "experts" calling it hold the offending player's fate in their hands. The ejection rule has got to go! Leave the 15 yard penalty, but to get ejected over something so subjective is not fair at all!
