Alabama Football Hires Oklahoma Analyst as Assistant Defensive Line Coach
Alabama added one more defensive assistant midway through spring practice, with Trent Simpson joining the Crimson Tide as an assistant defensive line coach from Oklahoma.
I'm just thankful DeBoer recognized all the weak spots and has been uber aggressive this offseason trying to fix them. It tells us he saw what we saw from our tv screens. LOL!
"The same thing wins that always won..."I've felt like DeBoer's past success indicated a guy who was smart about football and learned. I hope we see a further evolution this year.

Run the football. Stop the run."The same thing wins that always won..."
Run the football. Stop the run.
But the players are so skilled in the passing game now that the 2 bad things just don’t happen much. Nevertheless, you need to be ABLE to run the ball and you MUST be able to stop it, since now there are more teams focusing on it than the recent past.Three things happen when you pass the ball. And two of them are bad.

I absolutely marvel at the skill of today’s QBs and WRs. 7 on 7 and repetition has made today’s passing skill players much better than just 10 to 15 years ago.

In the modern game the run game is to make the passing game go. It stops the defense from being able to crash the pocket yes, but if you saw Indiana they were getting 4 and 5 yards or more on 1st down almost every time. Even when everyone including the dog knew the run was coming they couldn't stop it, we didn't, nobody did. So now they have every play in the playbook available to get the next 4 or 5 yards and 2 to 3 plays left to do it. The only way that offense doesn't score every time is if there is a significant negative play, a series of penalties, or a turnover. So essentially if they didn't mess up they were going to score 100% of their drives. You won't always see their level of perfection but getting closer to that model of run production is going to make you very good at scoring points.
