I'm going with Star Jackson. I think he's a dual threat.

If DJ Fluker is as good as many say he is, then Im not as worried about Andre Smith leaving for the NFL, and there is still Tyler Love from last year's class. As for Antoine Caldwell, he is an All-SEC Center and a very vocal leader for this team, hard to replace that, Im not so sure who will be snapping next year.

But, I dont think there will be an offensive dropoff next year. Coffee will be a Senior, Ingram will be a Sophomore, not to mention the (potential) addition of Trent Richardson. The rushing attack could be even better. This year's passing game isnt the best, but it works. If McElroy can do as JPW has done this year, managing the game and not making mistakes, i expect the offense to be just as good, if not better, next year.

McElory has a leg up because of game experience. Their have been freshman starters on teams in the past. Tommy Hobson..spel? had a very good freshman year at LSU. I would like to see us give Star some reps each game, maybe even McCarron if he looks ready. I have no doubt Coach Saban will start whoever he wants to be the full time starter and go from there. He seems to be a 1 QB guy.

It's something I'll not worry or even give much thought to until next year.

Think he was referring to 3 years on the team in general. In 1AA football at Alabama system.
Alabama is a Div 1A program
Alabama St. is a Div 1AA program

The QB position like all positions will be wide open in the spring and I have heard all sorts of things some I believe and some I don't quite believe. I think Greg McElroy will be the odds on favorite to be the starter going into the 2009 season but Darrah and Jackson could both push him. I believe if there hadn't been such a wide difference between QBs this year we would have seen more of Greg but JPW was miles ahead of the rest. Nick might try some QB substitutions early in the season just to see if someone breaks away from the pack.

Is Morgan Ogilvie who I think he is?? Also, what year is he...just wondering because I have heard absolutely no mention of him as compared to the others...

I'm guessing Star.

From reports he supposed to be very very talented (and these reports are never wrong, correct?).

I think the little bit of game experience McElroy has makes little difference. Clearly, the staff still just doesn't have that much confidence in him. I admire the kid greatly for doing everything he can to help Bama and he is often the first player from the bench to give JP a big hug.

If Star is the player that reports have him being (and it's a big if), then he will be the starter next fall.

I think Greg McElroy will get the nod in Coach Saban's "Administrative"spring roster (nobody's #1 and nobody's #2, aight, but for administrative purposes, we have to have some kind of order), but I believe that by the time fall camp is over Star has the ability to lay claim to it if he has the maturity to put in the time during the off-season learning the plays/nuances.

The future is very bright, indeed. I'm just pointing out that when you lose senior leadership of that caliber, it's hard to replace. LSU is struggling this year because of so much youth at key positions. Frankly, so is Auburn (but there are other latent problems with that program that have nothing to do with talent and experience).
Good post, A lot of people gripe and moan about JPW but there is no substitute for experience. All my aubie friends that hated Cox now wish he had one more year.
I see McElroy starting with Star seeing spot duty until one wins the job out right. Either way there will be some growing pains until they get some time under their belts.

Wouldn't it be great if we could end this season with a NC and next year could be a slight rebuilding year getting ready to crank up again for 2010 and another possible NC?

Hey ..... a guy can wish can't he? :D

I say plug Star in there and gt ready for 2010

GM deserves it, Star has the ability and Darrah has great arm talent. But, why worry now? Lets go beat LSU!!

I voted Greg McElroy because I think the experience factor will tilt it in his favor. I'm hoping he keeps it based on talent. It's not because I don't want to see the others but I remember when GM switched his commitment to us from Texas Tech. He was excited to come here and most everyone was excited about his talent. I hope he steps up big time.

next year at QB will be very interesting. Mcelroy should start. i believe the he should start and allow Star in on a series when the game is not on the line to get him acclimated to the game. RTR!:BigA:

I'm thinking Star Jackson will get the start next year. McElroy hasn't been too terribly impressive when he as gotten to play this season (although i realize he hasn't exactly played much). I think Star has more talent and will beat McElroy out for the starting job in spring practice.

I realize that all positions will be open at the beginning of the year, but I also think at the QB position the senior player has the opportunity to claim it for himself. I think it's McElroy's to claim or to lose, but the choice will be his. I will say though that if he doesn't claim it, he'll not be long with the Tide.

I just hope the hype surrounding Star doesn't result in what we've seen from Kodi "Keebles" Burns thus far.
Our fans do have a tendency to elevate all our recruits to superman status which leaves little room for growth and a lot of room to fail. We should have learned patience after a decade of mediocrity but that trait is still alive and well.
