Nick Saban joins ESPN

Nick Saban, one of the most accomplished and decorated coaches in college football history, will join ESPN, it was announced Wednesday following the recent news of his retirement from the University of Alabama. Saban will work primarily as an analyst on the set of College GameDay Built by The Home Depot (regular season and post-season editions), ESPN’s award-winning weekly college football road show.

Saban will also contribute to ESPN’s extensive, multi-day NFL Draft coverage, and make appearances tied to SEC Media Days across ESPN platforms, including SEC Network.

Saban, who has made many guest appearances on College GameDay through the years, will join a team that includes host Rece Davis, analysts Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee, as well as college football insider Pete Thamel, reporters Jen Lada and Jess Sims, and college football betting analyst ‘Stanford Steve’ Coughlin.
Give me much more of Saban. In exchange, give me much less Corso, Howard, McAfee, Thamel, Lada, Sims, and none at all of Stanford Steve.

Since mid-season, I've even come to tolerate, if not like, McAfee. The rest of them are just clutter on the set and add nothing. Thamel is decent for insider reporting but the rest of the lot add nothing and just take time away from the reason I would tune in. Send Corso off to retirement after the first week. Get rid of all the silly nonsense stuff and fluff "reporting". With Corso and Howard gone, there could be awesome football discussions w/ Herbie & CNS & McAfee moderated by Rece.

I understand the cash flow issues involved in going from an $11 mil. ++ salary to whatever it is now. I for one have a special dislike of ESPN and do not watch game day and do not plan to start now.

Coach Corso can stay as long as he wants, as far as I'm concerned. Not only has he earned the right to do so, I still enjoy hearing his opinions, points of view, and anecdotes. More so than any of the other CGD folks.

That said...I was happy to see Coach Saban getting on board. I look forward to hearing the same perspectives as pointed out above.......

It's not surprising since it was long rumored that he might go on Gameday after retirement. He'll provide valuable insight, especially about schemes that certain teams use but I don't know how he's going to put up with some of the craziness that goes on from the others, especially McAfee for 3 hours. I'm also unsure if he wants to get involved with predicting outcomes of games.
