First it was typically Oregon and Miami with the crazy looks. Then it became Clemson, Arizona, and Oregon State. Now it's California.

I've thought since Tedford's been there, that the uniforms have been a little non-traditional. Of course they weren't under the Nike format, but still crazy looking.

I was thinking the same thing, Capstone. It's not like Cal has been a program of a traditional uniform for decades now. They've had a ton of major changes the past few years, and this is just the latest. They'll have something else in a few years.

And I really don't see where Nike is to blame. It's not like they are forcing these things down anyone's throats. These schools have to agree to it as well, and they usually do in order to make a few more bucks. It's just as much their fault as it is Nike's.

Finally, several programs actually have new uniforms this year. I'll post pictures with consecutive replies...

Hawai'i has made pretty big changes to their uniforms. The following is a photo of Colt Brennan wearing the old unis:

Personally, I think the new ones look better. The old ones had way too much black on the home uniforms, and the road unis had way too much white. This is a better balance.

Kentucky will also have new uniforms in 2008. The tweaks are relatively minor, but I like them. The following is Andre Woodson in the 2007 jersey:

Again, I like the new ones. They aren't as busy as the other ones, and they got the shade of blue right. I hated the shade of blue on the old ones, it was just way too light.

- I really like the new Kentucky unis. They seem to be going back to the 1990s with those.

- The UAB shot just made me laugh. There were like three people in the background.

- Iowa State might be an improvement.

- The new Minnesota uniforms are just down right terrible. I guess money will make you wear anything.

Also, Virginia Tech will be doing a throwback game this year in the season opener. They will be wearing the same uniforms they had back in the day when we ran for like 800 yards against them:

A couple of more, unfortunately with no photos:

• There is nothing definite yet with Ole Miss, but it does look like they will be getting new pants. In recent years, the Ole Miss pants have been a bright silver color. In years past, though, Ole Miss pants were a much darker gray, almost more of a dingy grey. It seems that Ole Miss will be trading out the bright silver for the dull gray pants.

• Georgia Tech will be wearing, as a default home uniform, white jerseys over gold pants. They will have a couple of different combinations, but that will be the major difference. Click here for a bit of an undercover cell phone pic supposedly taken of the new uniforms. It looks legitimate, but we'll see.

Iowa State might be an improvement

USC ought to sue them, if anything. It's an obvious rip-off of their uniforms... ISU might as well start calling themselves the Iowa State Trojans.

Either way, though, I do think it looks a good bit better than the old ones. I personally hated their old uniforms.

I think the new Cal uniforms look sharp. Too bad they look alot like Michigan and WVU...


I love what Nike did in 2006 with the Houndstooth trim...
What design elements do you think NIKE would add if they were given "free reign" to do what ever they want.

First thing that comes to mind for me would be more grey from our mascot. Maybe an element signifying elephant tusks...
