No love for Bama

Watching the news, reading the papers, cruising the internet, listening to the talking sports heads, I hear very little regarding our Tide. There's much said about Texas, Penn State, U$C, Texas Tech, Utah, etc, etc.....but what about that #2 team? Is there even a #2 team this year??? ****Crickets*** :conf2:

Oh well, I guess the only thing we can do is "show em" just like we did in '92. If I recall, we weren't getting any love that year either...and this team is a lot like that team in many ways.

I've noticed they seem to leave Bama out of their discussions of the games coming up, and last week, they all wanted to pick Tenn. to win. The announcers during the game were pro Tenn. all the way. I got sick of listening to them gripe about the refs. and telling how Tenn. was gonna come back to win. They all seem to be prejudice against Alabama. Lou Holtz is one of the worst. He picked Notre Dame to win every game last year, and will not give Bama credit for anything this year. What a pitiful joke he is,and I can not for the life of me understand why he is on TV.

In general, we're not "sexy" enough to the media. Translation: We don't score enough points... :)

Maybe it depends on the area; in Raleigh they (850 the Buzz, sports talk radio) are now putting Alabama in every sentence regarding the top tier SEC teams. The discussion yesterday afternoon had to with whether a one loss Texas and/or Alabama still being better than an undefeated Penn State. Their take on the SEC was centered around who's Alabama going to play in the SECCG, Florida or Georgia...they were split.

I've heard Holtz on more than one occasion talk about how good this Alabama team is.

I only caught the second half of the UT game and the ESPN crew couldn't have been more complimentary of the talent, focus, coaching and sophistication of our team. A lot of folks around the country may not know us very well considering that we have spent the last 10 years on the dark side of the moon but they seem to catching on pretty quickly. :)

I agree that Bama isn't as hyped in the press as others and I like that. The most worrying thing about the rest of the season is that the guys start to believe hype. Let them go on about Texas or Texas Tech's huge offense. Let them go on about Joe Pa's perfect, and maybe last, season. Let Bama just keep ticking along and taking care of business. If they do, the last two games of this year (that is the SECCG and what happens after that) will be huuuuuge. Less pressure now is better.

It seems that much of the national media is expecting Bama to lose either to LSU or in the SEC championship game. Not many of them are projecting us to win out and make it to the BCS championship. Too much Urban Meyer love among the national media.

Of course, Urban Meyer invented Urban Meyer love.

A lot of the criticism of Alabama seems to be based upon the logic that it's worse to win a close game than it is to lose one.

exactly somehow it seems to make sense that it was better to barely lose to ole miss, than it was for us to barely win against ole miss :conf2::conf2::conf2:

Last night on espnU's College Football Insdier, Tom "I hate all things Bama" Luginbill (sp? who cares) said, "Alabama will not finish the season undefeated. Texas and Penn State will more than likely be the 2 in the BCS."

Kirk Herbstreit seems to usually find a way to mention us. At any rate, we need to get over this persecution complex. Yes, we were very unfairly treated by the media during the Means mess and then during the hiring of Coach Saban, but not so much lately. Actually, I think we get quite a bit of attention by the media since we thumped Clempson. The more we whine over perceived mistreatment, the more we perpetuate the problem. I honestly think a lot of BAMA fans go waaay out of their way to manufacture something out of nothing.

I think that there is just not that much to say. Everyone knows that if we win out from here, we are in the big game. Most people don't believe we will do that, which I can't argue with. A blowout by either team in the UF-UGA game means that we probably wouldn't even be favored in the SECCG even if we were undefeated.

Our Jekyl and Hyde persona in the Kentucky, Tulane, Ole Miss and UGA games has not helped our cause very much. Perhaps the UT game and its thoroughness will change some minds and impressions.

From what I have been hearing, it mostly a case of Alabama having the toughest road remaining...and therefore, the most likely to stumble...Texas is mostly finished with the toughest part of their schedule...Penns State is...well, Penn State is in the Big Ten, so they don't face much...Bama still has LSU on the road...a big rivalry game....and the SECCG remaining...

On the other hand, I have not heard any of the talking heads on TV state that Bama was not one the best in the country...
