Why? I'll tell you why... http://www.jcspn.com/Yeah I still don't understand (and I don't think I ever will) why Jimmy Clausen was a higher rated prospect coming out of High School than Noel Devine was.
That and grades were a concern at the time. Everyone thought he was going to prep school thats why he wasnt he number one prospect. Why? I'll tell you why... http://www.jcspn.com/
PW shouldn't get much attention or mention . There's a reason no other schools offered him as a QB - he isn't one .I thought Pat White and Steve Slaton would play each other out of the heisman, Not Noel Devine.
The guy is a freak. At least we do not have to play against him during the regular season.
Slaton only had 130 something yds as well. What a lethal one two punch in the backfield.5 carries 136 yards 27.2 avg
1 catch 1 yard
All I can say is Steve Slaton who? Unless RR stays loyal to Slaton I see Devine taking a lot of his carries over the course of the year.
Yeah. All we have is that lowsy Terry Grant.aaaaahhhhhhhh - what could have been
Slaton breaks tackles and has break-away speed - a combination of speed and strength. Devine is more of a Barry Sanders type runner (nothing wrong with that). While this type of runner has success at the college level, only the very best have success at the next level...He is one fast back with speed to burn.
I think you will see in time that Devine breaks tackles also. He is unbelivably strong for his size. A true freak of nature.Slaton breaks tackles and has break-away speed - a combination of speed and strength. Devine is more of a Barry Sanders type runner (nothing wrong with that). While this type of runner has success at the college level, only the very best have success at the next level...
I can see why someone might conclude that based on a sub-par performance by PW last night. And certainly he's not your classic passing QB.PW shouldn't get much attention or mention . There's a reason no other schools offered him as a QB - he isn't one .![]()
Perhaps, because of the type of offense that he runs - but White is not a prototypical QB. He is a running back first, and a QB second. He reminds me of Tommy Frazier, who was a great leader and ran the option offense like no one else. But he could not have run a pro set offense, and neither could White.I'll bet if Coach Rod were given the choice of starting a team with either PW, Slaton, or Devine ... he'd pretend to think about it for a few seconds ... and pick White.
I think Devine's size also played a part. Some of these recruiting "guru's" take size into account entirely too much. They see a guy who only weighs 170 and thinks that he is too small. Sometimes we get too busy looking for great athletes that we don't just look for great football players.Yeah I still don't understand (and I don't think I ever will) why Jimmy Clausen was a higher rated prospect coming out of High School than Noel Devine was. On film he is the best high school player i've ever seen, yet he was one of the lower rated 5-star prospects last year. Even though he's not at Bama, he is one of the few players I really really enjoy watching.
Agreed ... although I think PW's passing ability is a bit under-rated ... though you couldn't tell it last night. So, if QB = great offensive leader, White is a great QB. If QB = great passer, not so much so...
