I thought Pat White and Steve Slaton would play each other out of the heisman, Not Noel Devine.

The guy is a freak. At least we do not have to play against him during the regular season.

Yeah I still don't understand (and I don't think I ever will) why Jimmy Clausen was a higher rated prospect coming out of High School than Noel Devine was. On film he is the best high school player i've ever seen, yet he was one of the lower rated 5-star prospects last year. Even though he's not at Bama, he is one of the few players I really really enjoy watching.

He certainly performed against Maryland tonight. He didn't produce many of those magical high school runs we saw on You Tube, but what he showed was eye-popping. When he gets adjusted to the speed of college defenses, West Virginia is going to demolish all opponents.

PW shouldn't get much attention or mention . There's a reason no other schools offered him as a QB - he isn't one . :D

Noel Devine has more moves than exlax.

Did you guys see some of those moves he made agasint Maryland last night? He made that 1 guy for the Terps tackle his own player. I didn't even know the human body was capable of doing that. The only person that I can ever doing things close to that was Barry Sanders.

If he stays healthy and "clean" and gains 10 lbs., we could have the next great RB in the NFL...he is sick. :D

5 carries 136 yards 27.2 avg
1 catch 1 yard

All I can say is Steve Slaton who? Unless RR stays loyal to Slaton I see Devine taking a lot of his carries over the course of the year.

Slaton only had 130 something yds as well. What a lethal one two punch in the backfield.

He is one fast back with speed to burn.
Slaton breaks tackles and has break-away speed - a combination of speed and strength. Devine is more of a Barry Sanders type runner (nothing wrong with that). While this type of runner has success at the college level, only the very best have success at the next level...

I think you will see in time that Devine breaks tackles also. He is unbelivably strong for his size. A true freak of nature.

I can see why someone might conclude that based on a sub-par performance by PW last night. And certainly he's not your classic passing QB.

But combining running, passing, and intangibles, there are many WVU fans who consider Pat the greatest Mountaineer football player ever ... even above Major Harris.

I'll bet if Coach Rod were given the choice of starting a team with either PW, Slaton, or Devine ... he'd pretend to think about it for a few seconds ... and pick White.

Perhaps, because of the type of offense that he runs - but White is not a prototypical QB. He is a running back first, and a QB second. He reminds me of Tommy Frazier, who was a great leader and ran the option offense like no one else. But he could not have run a pro set offense, and neither could White.

So, if QB = great offensive leader, White is a great QB. If QB = great passer, not so much so...

I think Devine's size also played a part. Some of these recruiting "guru's" take size into account entirely too much. They see a guy who only weighs 170 and thinks that he is too small. Sometimes we get too busy looking for great athletes that we don't just look for great football players.

Noel Devine is definitely the next Barry Sanders. In fact, most recruiting sites listed him as having the "best raw talent since Barry Sanders." Devine's most dangerous ability is his acceleration. I've never seen anybody with the kind of acceleration that Devine has. It certainly helps that he benches 330 and squats 500 for his size, but his acceleration will destroy college defenses much like how Sanders pretty much destroyed everybody single-handedly in 1988. Devine has the talent--and the perfect name--to be one of the greatest of all time.
