Bryant-Denny never lives up to its potential in terms of noise. I don't understand why even those who refuse to yell whenever the opposing offense is on the field, can't at least clap their hands or something...

It reminds me a lot of The Big House as that place is huge, yet never lives up to its potential either.

I think it'll take Saban having to send a message to the fans, for Bryant-Denny to reach its full potential.

I know we can be loud, but most of the time, we're not as loud as we should be.
Amen. I scream so loud that the little boy in front of me turns around to look at me and put his fingers in his ears :eek2:

It'll be loud, but those of you who think there's a problem with "the students" aren't paying attention. It's the GREEKS who have a laissez faire approach to arriving on time and staying the whole game, not the students in general. We've discussed this issue many times before.

The student section is LOUD and they put the rest of us to shame, quite honestly. Speaking for myself, I like to yell and scream too, but I refuse to be obnoxious about it. If there are older people sitting around me, I will respect them first and foremost. IOW, I'm not going to stand and block their view or jump around like a fool just for the sake of adding to the crowd noise. I can yell from a seated position if I need to. I like to use my common decency like that.

OK - OK I am over this old vs young thing about being loud. I am 63 yo and I set in section JJ. I am loud! I am so sick of the "young" people around me who do not know or understand when and how to make noise at a game.
One kid setting next to me last year, I say young 20ish, kept shaking a shaker and saying nothing. During one of these sections I turned to him and said "you know that thing makes no noise, right?" He looked at me like what are you talking about. I then yelled at him" make some da*% noise!"
I was there last time FL was in BD and I will be there again Saturday. Old, young just make some da*@ noise!

I know where you are coming from. I had no problem being obnoxious at the Penn St. game. We had 4 Penn St. fans sitting in front of us that repeatedly blamed the officials for not calling stuff. I made sure they heard me, and I did nothing other than just yell. (I might have aimed it at the back of their heads a few times.) Once I had to remind one of them, "Hey buddy, those are your refs." My wife and I were loud enough that my left ear and her right ear were hurting from both of us yelling.

In defense of the student section in the south deck not filling up in a "timely" manner, I think all the students that could were trying to get into the lower bowl. Once they were diverted I think it took them a while to get up there. Once the announcement was made to go up, it took them a little while to make the trek up the ramps. Once there though, it was a steady stream into the seats. I think the process has been worked out for them so it likely will fill quicker now.

I have a feeling the Penn St. game didn't show what this new expansion has done for sound. Bama fans probably didn't have the same hunger this Florida game will bring out, and I'm very curious to see how loud it gets.

Bama fans that are there, rock the house Saturday like ya never have before...........

I don't know how much of that was the student section not being there in the upper deck or the regular tickets not being there. The student section in the upper deck is only like 3 sections. The rest is regular seating. The bottom part of the student section was full and closed off a good 30-45 minutes before kickoff.
i think a lot of folks were trying to wait out the rain and got to the stadium later than usual as well. the ramps and entrances were super crowded about 15-20 mins before kickoff and it was hard to move around at all

Early success for Alabama wouldn't hurt either. In 2005 Chris Leak was within the 10 and then within the 5 before he turned around. Then Brodie to Prothro for 7 right off the bat.......couldn't have asked for more. :BigA:

I was there in 2005 and I was loud and the entire stadium was LOUD. I honestly think it shook the Gators up (and their fans also). It's like they had not played in an environment like that.

However, when Prothro was hurt there was a HUSH (Silence) throughout the stadium, but the game was in the bag by then.

I'll be there again and very loud if someone has extra tickets!

I was watching Urban on the sideline during the game. I don't think he knew what had hit him/them.

All I could think at the time was: WELCOME to the SEC Urban!

If you can speak after you leave the game, then you weren't loud enough. :)

Maybe it's just me, but I love to yell. It makes things a lot more exciting when it's loud in there. At the same time, I understand that some people just can't yell and scream. By the fourth quarter, I usually get too tired to be loud anymore..except for on the big plays.

I've just read so many things in the past where players have said that the crowd noise is really a difference maker - for both sides. Positive for one and negative for the other... :)

The ones that sit on their hands need to consider staying home and watching it on televison. We need to help our boys any way we can....that means making BDS a place that is other teams dread to play games in. This is something that I can not understand, football is played on emotion.....it's not golf!!
I'm going to say my piece then move on. There are people who go to the game who can't stand the whole game, who can't yell at the top of their lungs for three hours but support the team. They could also be people who were given tickets to the game and don't have the same zeal as the younger fans. There are people with handicaps who go to the games and I fall into that category. What I am saying is not everyone can and not everyone is willing so saying they should stay at home and watch on TV is a fairly harsh statement. People get a ticket, buy a ticket and have the option to yell or sleep through the game. I guarantee there are more people yelling than sleeping and BDS is plenty loud with or without those few visitors from the retirement home who want to watch the game in peace. That attitude really irks me and I find it disrespectful to some of our fans who are quite possibly big doners.

Only the Government Knows
WRONG!

As a student I am offended by this statement. I will have you know the lower level (15,000 student seats) was FULL and hour before kick off. The upper level in only portion of the new endzone. The only people you have trouble with showing up are the Greeks.

Both the home games the Student Section was full, don't call us out. We are the loudest part of the stadium. It may seem silly that this upsets me, but both games I was in well before 2 hours before kickoff as most students were.
The student section sets the standard of how loud the rest of us should be!

It's been my experience that Bryant-Denny stadium noise kind of varies according to the level of competition. When you have a top notch opponent visit, like UF in 2005, OU in 2003, etc. then the fans really get up for it and Bryant-Denny is as loud or louder than any venue in the country. I think it will be that way this week because we all know what's at stake.

Whether it's right or not, most of the other games we feel like we are supposed to win, so the crowd doesn't get as fired up.

As crazy as I get at home watching the game.....I am scared to think how many fans will walk out of the stadium after the game going...

"Who was that crazy woman in front of us?":biggrin:

I have been known to make the neighbor's dog's howl during one of my moments of crazed screaming!
