Now the question is, how much of his staff goes with him and how will it affect recruiting? Jimbo Fisher is long rumoured to be his successor but who else on the staff will stay?

I think Coach Saban's NFL background is a little deeper than Spurrier's was before he made the leap into the NFL.

On the loyalty issue Texastigers hit on, I agree 100%. You want a coach that wants to be at your school for the long haul and not a fly-by-night. After watching the fRan debacle unfold, I too wanted a coach that would come in and plant some roots and Mike Shula fits that bill to a T. Mike Price, on the other hand, I had my doubts about so I'm glad he went to Pensacola last year. However, it's a fine line because the moment you hit the skids and start putting up some L's, you run the risk of landing on your unemployed arse despite you commitment to the school.
TexasTideFan,
It is strange how things worked out. I thought tht Coach Price, with his college roots, would stay at Alabama until he retired. The two strongest replacement candidates considered for him, Coach Shula and Coach Croom, each have ties to pro football. Bama could be facing the same situation as LSU someday, after Coach Shula wins the National Championship.

It is HIGHLY unlikely that Coach Shula will go anywhere NEAR pro football!

His father's shadow is wayyyyy to big and his older brother David already played that card and found out what it's like to be Don Shula's son in the NFL. When Mike begins winning and winning big, he will become even more comfortable in college coaching and won't leave Bama. I can see Mike staying with us like "Bear" did if he can become successful in the eyes of all Bama fans!

this tiger fan is nervous, but, i can't fault a person for fullfillign their goals and taking care of their family. regardless of what happens the sun will rise tommorrow - i hope skip has a short list of candidates in the top drawer of his desk. i will be disappointed but understanding. one thing i do know he will not have the food or the passion for football like in south louisiana.

one thing to think about remember what happened with duke's basketball coach this yr? turned down 40 mill.

get started on the change and being a Bama fan, we have gone through some coaches which add's a lot of time to start rebuilding.. Hey, the guy is going to get his $.. Good Luck..

Based on some of Saban's interview responses I think it is a done deal also--

Saban said he hasn't talked to the Dolphins since. He said the timetable for a decision on the Miami job isn't his, but his preference would be to wait until after LSU plays Iowa in the Capital One Bowl at Orlando on Jan. 1.

"I personally would like to stay focused on what we're doing here," he said following practice Monday in Baton Rouge. "I would like to discuss the bowl game and I'd like to discuss our team. I'd like to discuss our players. They deserve that. They should be rewarded."

On a side note--it looks like AU is trying to wrap up Tubby for the foreseeable future.
