Now I do think that is wasteful, but it's this kind of penny-wise and pound foolishness in this country that drives me crazy. People get up in arms over a million dollars, but where's the uproar about the billions and trillions?
Really? A million here and a million there and you are talking about real money?

Seriously, I have to be penny and pound wise, and want that from my government. I have no problem with people who point out both no matter who is doing the spending and for what.

Sounds like a good party platform and stump line too if you happen to be looking for one.

Oops,

Read this backards my bad:

Ultimately, a presidential vacation can cost taxpayers an additional $1 million or considerably more than if the president had just stayed put in the White House.
i had to read it twice when you said that just to make sure i got it right. it was worded weirdly

Can I get ticked off at the wasting of millions of dollars and the wasting of billions and trillions of dollars, or do I have to pick just one?

Here is my concept of the servant-leader:
Marcus Atilius Regulus, a Roman general and senator, was captured by the Catharginians during the First Punic War. They sent him to Rome with a peace proposal on the condition that, if he could not get the Senate to accept the terms, he would return to Carthage, and the Carthaginians would torture him to death.
Regulus went to Rome, and told the Senate to reject the terms, because they were bad for the Roman republic. Then, Regulus, true to his word, returned to Carthage, where the Carthaginians, true to their word, tortured him to death. That is a servant-leader.
Is it really asking too much of a pampered president to stay at home for the holidays? Is that too much to ask?

There is always hope. One can hope that Democrat voters will emigrate to Syria or someplace like that.
Or that they will get too bored to vote. Ever.
Or that the entire Democrat caucus will resign simultaneously and take up fishing.
There is always hope.
i hope that i dont have a stroke when i visit non-sports and read of the next outrageous thing obama has done

This is ridiculous to complain about. I cant comment as to the accurateness of the 3.7M but I'm sure its not cheap. Yes, Bush43 did it, yes Clinton did it ... And yes the next one will do it (unless they are a billionaire and already have a personal 757). Its simply a cost of the times. Nothing wrong unless it is abused.
I doubt the billionaire would be able to get all of the unique capabilities of AF1 installed on his private aircraft.
It was funny watching Trump boast that his aircraft (a 757) was bigger than AF1 (a 747). It's probably more posh, but definitely smaller.

Actually, no. A million here and a million there and you still aren't talking about real money. It's not just that the Obama vacation distracts people, it's that people actually believe if we just cut a little here, tightened a little there, we'd be out of our spending problem. We wouldn't, and the focus on the piddling things takes away attention from the real problem.

We spend around $300 billion on interest on the national debt, every year. That's 81,000 Obama Christmas vacations. It's almost a thousand dollars for every man, woman, and child in this country. I want to be fiscally sound, and at one time I was a budget hawk, but the more time I spent with the budget the more I realized that until we get serious about entitlements, it just doesn't matter.
Yep. And that is with the interest rates paid at historically low rates. If they were to rise to the average over the last century, the debt service would be even higher.
I believe Democrats have absolutely no interest in addressing this and Republicans (at least the establishment types) are scared to even talk about it.
As I have said elsewhere, entitlement reform is inevitable. We can make the painful adjustments now, or the really, really painful adjustments later. I would vote for any candidate that proposed spending cuts, even if accompanied by tax increases. But the spending cuts are non-negotiable for me. The only way we can get the deficit under control is spending cuts. Not reductions in increases, or the magical "we'll cut spending in the out-years, 5-10 years from now, but claim credit for the cuts now" spending cuts, but spending cuts now. Of course, the evil morons aka Democrats, will demagogue the issue and tell voters, "Give me one more fix (tax increase) and I promise, I'll get my spending under control." That is why Democrats are such scum, worthy of only contempt.
Without courageous Congressmen (and women), however, who are willing to make the hard decisions now, the later choices will be even harder. If we don't make hard choices now, then the choices will get made for us later and the later choices will be really really bad for seniors, as in, "We won't be increasing entitlement spending next year, we won't be covering any of your life-saving medicine at all, sorry" kind of hard. My father, who is a loyal MSNBC watcher and an even more loyal Democrat, when I pin him down about entitlement spending and the inevitable collapse they entail, literally says, "I hope I die before the spending cuts hit." He literally is willing to leave me, and my kids (and their kids) to deal with the carnage. He sees this as "winning." That makes me want to punch him in the mouth, but MSNBC says that if we just taxed the rich more, he might make it to then end of his days before the crisis hits. After that, he doesn't care. I thank God that in the history of this republic there are better men than him.

Here are the historic interest rates that the Federal government pays to service its debt.

The historic low is less than 2% (which is what current rates are close to). The average 4.9%, or more than double current interest rates. We are paying $300 billion to service the current debt. If the interest rates were to rise to the average it may double the interest payment to $600 billion. That is on money already spent. Even if we were to magically balance our Federal budget and not add another dime to the debt (a mathematical impossibility given the current scumbag Democrat party leadership), then our interest payments would be the largest or maybe the second largest item on the budget. If they were to rise to the historic highs (around 15%), then service debt on money already spent would be the largest budget item, by far. And you cannot not pay the interest. If you stop paying interest, then the interest rates on further debt rises to triple digits, meaning we could never run a budget deficit again.
This is playing with fire. This is an existential threat like the United States have never faced before. And Democrats, to their eternal shame, want only to demagogue the issue.
