Chew on this...

If CNS would have turned down a dinner with BHO like he did to W a few years back, do you think Coach Saban would have been painted as a racist for not wanting to dine with a black man??

Mocking religious beliefs? Religious beliefs that are held by a sect of white, Appalachian Americans. Why do you disparage the descendants of the people that gave this country many of its' leaders during its' formative years? I guess that it is OK to disparage poor, uneducated, white people of Scot-Irish descent.
i learned my mockery of other religious beliefs such as snake handling from my coal mining southern baptist relatives who grew up in southern appalachia.

and yes, i will continue to mock snake handling. if you dont like it, hiss off ;)

I'm a descendant of said warlike people, and I can attest that we were more interested in moonshinin' and killin' than we were of drinking poison and handling snakes at Sunday worship.

Of course the Sullivans of Sullivans Hollow had the preacher branch and the outlaw branch. VJ and I are distantly related in that we both have kinfolk of the Sullivans. I think we're both equal sinners and saints.

There are Sullivans in my family tree as well. You could very well trace your family back through the Stewarts of Scotland. I also have a relative that was hanged in the Lincoln conspiracy, he was the one that attacked the Sec of War. The snake handlers are an extremely small sect. I was trying to make the point that he was mocking a group that it is OK to mock. Should he have mentioned something derogatory about homosexuals, muslims, buddhists, or any other PC protected group, he would have been smacked down. Just mock some of those looney muslims that cut their heads and see how many moral relativists jump on your back.

IMHO the snake handlers are lunatics, but that is their gig and I do have some distant cousins that do it. I have seen one of them in more than one documentary.

This must make some peoples heads hurt. Having to defend political correctness in order to take a swipe at BO. Decisions, decisions.
Personally, should he have said it, probably not. Is it worth getting upset over, probably not. FWIW, I'll bet most here have said much worse in private conversations.

I said in my initial post in this thread to show me a Special Olympian who can bowl 300.

Well, I should have known: Here he is:

300 5X Since 2005

McConiughey, who is mentally disabled, is just the bowler for the job. He's bowled five perfect games since 2005.

I answered your initial post with that...check the link I posted earlier in the thread, and you'll see several Special Olympians who have bowled perfect games. It's just a simple Google search, but it was mentioned in the story ad nauseum when the news outlets first reported on the reaction of the Special Olympics. That's why I said the Stephen Hawking comparison would have been more valid.

Meh - Hawking has already had his share of ridicule.

One of my favorite story lines on Seinfeld was George's perpetual unemployment. In one episode, George was trying to get a job throught the Americans With Disabilities Act and had rented a wheelchair and started showing up for interviews.

He rolls into Jerry's apartment and says "You'll never guess what happened."

Jerry: "You mugged Stephen Hawking?"
