Re: How does everyone feel about Paul Johnson?

I 100% agree. Paul Johnson is a GREAT COACH. I just hope if not at Bama , he stays out of the SEC

Amen to that brother!! If PJ came to the SEC he would be outcoaching and steady kickin' Ears', Phatty's, UM's, and LM's heinies! My only hope is that he is accomplishing this for UA not handin' 'em to RR, as well!!
I firmly believe that Coach Johnson will get his big shot, not a matter of if but when, and I hope that those in charge of Bama's search, at the very least, give him an interview and check his stats before nonchalantly dismissing him because, "...he can't recruit..." or, "..he coahes at Navy.." or, "..his NCs were Div. II..", or any other of the same uneducated, close-minded, lame reasons that lead many, who simply see a name as the biggest quality, on this board to dismiss him as a candidate!

No Shot

It just kills me he is probably the best coach out there for us, he'd come to us this afternoon and he's apparently not even on the radar. Yes, he is the most fundamentally sound, fits real well with Alabama Culture (defense, disipline, strength & conditioning) and has the most compelling characteristic that is really needed at the Capstone...he's a WINNER!

Everyone is seeing stars with these coaches with fancy offenses and multi-million dollar salaries when the best coach we could have is being totally overlooked.

I'll back whoever is hired but I think we are really missing the boat not getting Coach Johnson. RTR!!!

I agree. Plus, I think that Coach Johnson's buy-out at Navy is only $500,000 and that would leave more in the pot for us to pay for some quality assistant coaches.

Re: How does everyone feel about Paul Johnson?

I agree with the posts about CPJ being a Good candidate, but it's just not going to happen. His name recognition alone is going to keep him out of this job, at this time. The Administration is looking for a "big splash", whether you agree or not, that's what they want - Now whether RR is a "big splash" is debatable, but I agree, we may look back on this in the years to come and say "WHAT IF"???????

Re: How does everyone feel about Paul Johnson?

I teach with a guy who played lb for CPJ at Georgia Southern and he raves about CPJ. He says that he is a great coach. Really good at making adjustments and a solid motivator. He told me of some times where they couldn't wait to get out and punish opposing teams ....just to show em how they do it down in the dirty....:)

I know i have been teasing Dabaxter lately but i really like CPJ. I am 55/45 CRR/CPJ. I think he will end up being a big winner wherever he goes.

My impression of Coach Johnson is that he is a Joe Kines style of fundamental coach but on the offensive side.

I think you are right...and that is very, very unfortunate for our prospects of hiring a coach like Johnson who would win, win big and stay with us for a very long time.

Re: How does everyone feel about Paul Johnson?

I am really baffled as to why Paul Johnson is being passed over by all the schools with openings right now.

Re: How does everyone feel about Paul Johnson?

I agree with you 100%, but am happy with the hire, regardless. However, if RR comes to Bama, the personnel at WV would be taylor made to Paul Johnson's current offense. When he ends up at a major school, he'll win a national championship within 5 years.

shaft

Well, if Coach Rod gives us the shaft I'm really not that down about it seeing as Coach Johnson has been my favorite all along. He's a winner, a program builder and would be in Tuscaloosa in a New York second. Maybe it's fate...I hope so!

RTR!!!

Re: How does everyone feel about Paul Johnson?

he just got a raise to $1.9m plus incentives new contract. Seems like every coach in America should threaten to tak e the Alabama, guaranteed way to get a huge raise

Re: How does everyone feel about Paul Johnson?

I'm growing weary of these coaches using Bama to get raises at their current schools. Why not go for an outstanding coach who actually wants to coach here, like Coach Paul Johnson? But sadly, I don't think that Mal even approached him before he got his new contract today from the Navy...

Paul Johnson

I am still at a loss as to why Mal Moore hasn't spoke to Paul Johnson. I am 100 percent behind a proven coach. The AL administration has got to seek out the right candidate. Paul Johnson of course has been my pick from the get go. Everyone has seen my post. Make me the AD and I will take care of getting Paul to Alabama. Roll Tide Roll :BigA:
