No, but the win might cause a more devastating loss. The players were celebrating. I get the happiness. I was celebrating. But if they don't realize now that giving less than 100% on every play is unacceptable then you are in trouble, because there are teams out there that do realize that and are playing accordingly.

I am not saying that this team is complacent, but it sure is inconsistent.
I didn't see a "lack of effort". I saw exactly the opposite of having some guts and responding to adversity. Not going to beat everyone by 30 pts. I think this win and last week did more for the team in the future than the early blowouts.

I went to the game, and I’m just now recovering from the cowbells, the near heart attack, and the amazing win. I got to say:

1) those cowbells are very annoying

2) starkvegas is hard to get out of

3) Jalen is the man

4) there are better refs working at foot locker than those calling the game last night

5) Mullen called a heck of a game

6) we looked tired from the LSU game.

7) while a lot of people will use this to say auburn is going to beat us, take 3 things in consideration:

A) Gus is not as patient as Mullen in working a clock control game plan.

B) Hurts is not a statue in the backfield like Fromm

C) we played MSU after a very tough game against a team that beat Auburn.

8) it appears Daboll hasn’t shown his full hand. I think we have been seeing new plays in every game. I think that was the first pop pass in a while.

All in all I enjoyed my time in cowbell land with the exception of these drunk clanga fans messing with these Bama fans behind me, and the parking situation. I think we will be fine

There was no lack of effort last night. There were kids playing who have had only a few reps this year and literally didn't know where to be. Worse, older players were trying to cover for them, rather than doing their own jobs. Holcombe, who is limited ability-wise, had to go back out because he knows the playbook and the calls...
TIDE-HSV makes a great point that people need to keep in mind. We had a few starters on defense last night who were literally on the scout team at the beginning of the year. Lots of talent, just not a lot of experience. But they all played with a ton of heart. Never saw anyone get down or give up or quit fighting.

You and I will just have to agree to disagree if you think that the players weren't putting in a great effort. If they weren`t, we`d have lost that game. I`m pretty sure of that.

uh, and anyone saying that is right, too.

(This is where the whole Eeyore thing goes off the rails).

We've gotten beaten at the line in both of the last two games.

I've never been an Eeyore but anyone who doesn't realize that Auburn is not a 3-9 joke is in for a rude awakening.

UGA failed early in that game to capitalize and played undisciplined football. I don't think we'll have much trouble with the latter (we rarely do), but we have had some issues with the former.

Jalen Hurts is literally going to be the Cam Newton X-factor in the Iron Bowl. It is going to be on him to win it or not.
That is correct. Auburn completely took away Georgia's rushing attack, and Fromm was not able to beat them. I expect them to do the same with us, but Jalen can throw the ball. He'll have to make plays like last night to win. I think he will do it.

As much as we would like to see it, we can't beat everyone by three scores. The team we beat last night would be in contention for a playoff spot if they played in the PAC12, BIG10, or BIG12. They are a talented, tough, and gritty football team, and we went into their house, a very loud and intimidating house, and got a win.
What would Ohio State give to have been able to do that against Iowa?
What would Georgia give to have been able to do that against Auburn?
What would Notre Dame give to have been able to do that against Miami?
We won a really tough road game, in a very loud environment, against a ranked opponent. Clemson went into a loud environment and got beat by a bottom dweller in the ACC.
The aforementioned three got eviscerated, embarrassed, and exposed on national television.
With a defense full of holes caused by injury, we were able to make plays at critical times and capitalize on the mistakes that Mississippi State made down the stretch. We outgained them on offense. When the dust settled, we averaged over five yards per rush, and held them to a little over three. Yes, we gave up five sacks, but we did not turn the ball over, and we made adjustments on defense that allowed us to stifle their offense when they needed it the most. Was it total domination?
No, but they can't all be wins like Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl or Michigan State in the playoffs.
Sometimes, they are like the win over Clemson.
And every time, a win is better than a loss.
Roll Tide.

Sometimes when you have a booger up your nose, you need someone, friend or foe to tell you it's there. When all is said and done we'll look back at this game and realize MSU did us a favor in pointing out flaws. Bama will be a better team because of this game.

So I just watched Saban's press conference from last night, and afterwards youtube suggested Dan Mullen's postgame press conference, so out of curiosity I clicked on it. At the beginning Mullen was asked what it felt like to come so close to achieving something you've never achieved. His answer was, "it is frustrating, but Alabama is the #1 team in the country and they are #1 for a reason. On the other hand I guess we get a chance to try and beat the #1 team in the country every year, so there is always next year". I guess Dan Mullen doesn't care what the CFPC says.

Muscle Shoals got the Swampers
Definitely outcoached our defensive staff this week.

Offensively, I thought we were pretty good. 4th Q was masterful. Don’t understand why we went away from the the perimeter runs; but the slant call was great and executed perfectly.

It’s great to have blow outs; but if this team is advancing, they needed the pressure of tonight to get them ready.

RTR!

I agree whole heartedly. We really needed to see how we could handle a pressure situation. I believe we get the boy's healthy and we will be fine....RTR

I watched that too. He pre-installed us as #1 next year also... :D

I am not talking about the defense - I am talking about the offense. Or are you buying the notion that they finally "figured it out" in the 4th quarter, when they started dominating MSU's defense?

The reality - the offense plays with no consistency in the entire LSU game and for the first 3 quarters of this game. They turn it on when they have to, but that is not good enough, and it certainly isn't playing to a standard.

I haven't had a single gripe about your defense this year. They are hurt now, but they are absolutely giving their best effort on every possession. Any inconsistency that we saw last night came from inexperience and from a defensive game plan that put them in a vulnerable position.

B1G, once again you're raining on our parade. Enough already. ;)
Not really - I still believe that you have the best team in college football - something that a lot of posters have given up on because of the injuries. I just think that it is time for the offense to step it up - play with anger and a will to win on every play.
