It is only intentional grounding when the passer throws to an area where there is no receiver if the passer is trying to conserve yardage or time. I don't think Young was avoiding a sack on the throw that the receiver broke off on (rare for this game) and it would be hard to conclude that he made the throw to conserve time.

Did the AU radio guys know this rule?...

They never suggested it was grounding. But play or two before the TD I agree with them- Bryce got away with grounding or was really close to it.

He was outside the box and threw it over the LOS, so no grounding
I couldn't remember if he was in or out of the box. Either way, the AU guys must have realized it was not a play in which intentional grounding should be called.

ETA: Okay, I see further down that I got confused above about which play was being discussed. I'm back on the play when the receiver broke the route, not the earlier play...

He wasn't outside the box as a matter of fact he ran to where the center would've been, and there was no receiver in the area (play on 2nd and 10 not when Brooks broke off his route). The fact is Bama got away with one there. Which is a moot point given what AU got away with in that game. I was surprised they didnt call it.

See the 2:29 mark-

I am willing to admit Bama got away with one, but Bryce was hit while throwing and he was throwing to someone (off camera).
Edit: the camera angle looking along the long axis of th field shows clear he was throwing to Billingsley when he got hit. Billingsley was alone in the middle of the field.
