This was a loss for people like me who were willing to give DeBoer grace for last year but this was inexcusable, not just the loss but the effort, how soft we looked, not saying he should be fired but the temperature will keep rising on that seat if we continue to look pedestrian against FBS opponents.
I believe Herby used the term Lethargic...which is an apt way to describe our effort and our Coaches' sideline demeanor

Thinking about this game this morning, it occurred to me that it went exactly the opposite of what I expected. It was almost like they traded uniforms.

Their offense was solid and had numerous explosive plays that broke any momentum we had on defense.

Their defense was aggressive, chasing our QB all over the field on every pass play.

They looked focused and played with intensity and confidence. They played like a team that was ****ed off by their preseason. ready to start the climb up the charts.

The above is what I was expecting to see from the Tide but, instead, we played the way I expected the Noles to play. Very disappointing.

Do you think there would be a scenario where they get rid of him this season?
If our downward trajectory continues do you think he would survive year 3?
I suppose it is possible Alabama lets him go this season.
I suppose it is possible if Alabama goes 8-5 this year (but beats UGA, UTe & the Barn) and 7-6 next year, he might could keep his job somehow.
My point was firing the head coach will be a difficult and expensive. Only someone with a view inside the building and another eye on the program's finances will be able to judge effectively.
My football-watching friend said yesterday, "It appears like a culture problem in Tuscaloosa."
The culture in the program right now is not healthy. I remember the replacing of Coach Stallings and how painful that rollercoaster was until January 2007.

You hit the nail on the head. The CULTURE has been poor since 2022 if im going to be honest.

I have been feeling the same way. It is another professional league, and it is everything I dislike about the pro game. What really stuck out to me during the broadcast was when the announcers would say, "That is (insert players name) that transferred from (insert schools name).
I agree with this 100%. I loved the NFL in the 70s because players stayed on one team long enough for it to become a team. This gave each team a personality and gave the players incentive to give 110% for their teammates and the city they played for rather than players looking out for only themselves.

I grew up on defenses where linebackers and defensive ends knew how to set the edge. Now, the field's full of wolves, bandits, huskies, rovers, and stings - running wild without fundamentals. Tape don't lie. Sadly, I've never been more convinced that the coaching is inept.

We are quickly becoming a punching bag and laughing stock. The defense is a joke, and we're soft on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. We'll see if they can fix it. I have my doubts, but I hope they prove me wrong.
This guy and his staff have turned us into a laughing stock in less than two seasons.

We're stuck with this crap

John Talty nails it here.

He nails a lot of things but one thing I think he glosses over a bit was the situation Washington was going to be in. This was a team loaded with six year seniors and veterans (not something you can replicate since they were a result of the Covid year) he acquired Penix because he just happened to be there when he was at Indiana, that part was sheer luck. They also didn't have a great recruiting class incoming. So it wasn't a situation he could replicate and he was going to have a worse year had he stayed at Washington most likely (they were moving to the Big 10 on top of everything else).

It was actually one reason I was so wary of the hire. Washington wasn't set up for future success in my opinion (they went 6-7 last year). Part of the job is building a program and a lot of question marks remain in that area. If he left Washington in great shape I'd feel better about things overall.

He took more money to acquire more talent, it was a calculated risk but was also a classic sell high scenario. DeBoer was 12-6 at Fresno St., he took a couple great years and turned that into a massive pay day.He also then used that to give his buddies massive raises (I think Sheridan quadrupled his pay). So.. he and his friends are going to do fine in this either way. It's the Alabama program that's not looking so great right now.

It was another game of poor preparation. Oklahoma, Michigan, FSU.

What Saban built doesnt have cracks, this guy has taken a sledge hammer to it.

Slept on it, and here are my random thoughts:

FSU will be a very good team this season, and will be a contender for the ACC title. Especially after watching Clemson last night. Hard to fathom given their disastrous season last year, but that seems more and more likely to be a bizarre anomaly. They are really good on the lines of scrimmage, which will buy them another 7-8 wins at a minimum considering the makeup of the rest of their conference. This loss, while not really defensible, will look better at the end of the season.

Our offensive game plan was solid, but I think we panicked and ditched it too quickly when we got behind. Ty played well considering this. He was asked to do too much heavy lifting. I think he will get better throughout the season. He didn’t turn the ball over (although there were a couple of close calls), and he should have probably scrambled more - but those are things that I think can and will improve. He was basically thrown to the wolves in a tough environment. Milroe probably turns the ball over 3-4 times yesterday in that setting.

Germie Bernard is our best receiver, and I thought that at the end of last season. Ryan is good but his build (or lack thereof) is going to cause him problems if he continues to take licks. He needs to be outside rather than in the slot. Horton getting nicked up, or whatever happened to him, probably messed up our game plan a bit as well. Scott showed some flashes. Cuevas looks like a dude. I think our passing game will get better as the season progresses, barring devastating injuries.

Losing Jam Miller hurt. The backs weren’t a huge part of the passing game yesterday and I suspect Miller would have been, based on reports coming out of camp. Ty didn’t have as much of a safety valve as he might have otherwise.

I actually thought the O-Line played ok. Not great, but ok. Room for improvement. Proctor is still too big and too slow in pass pro and we will just have to find a way to mitigate that.

Defense: where to start? Just a poor overall showing. Losing Keenan was big. Not convinced Lawson is 100%. Too many head scratching looks and calls from the sideline as well. When Wommack is good, he’s really good. And when he’s bad, he’s really bad. Lee had a great camp but doesn’t need to be iso in coverage against the fastest receiver on the field. I agree with others that our lack of size and depth makes the front a liability against this type of scheme, which is essentially the flexbone run out of the gun/pistol - and we are going to see more of it. Not sure what the answer is here because it’s part personnel, part scheme and part play calling. We may need to get super, super efficient on offense to overcome this honestly. I think the offensive stuff is correctable and I think the defense will get better when healthier, but I’m not sure how much of this can be cleaned up this season.

I had a bad feeling going into this game and didn’t say it because I didn’t want to speak it into existence. It was a confluence of everything above and probably more that I haven’t mentioned.

That said, my gut tells me that this team will get better. I don’t think the season is lost yet. Poor showings the next two weeks might change my mind, but if we come out and blast ULM and Wisconsin (as we well should), I’ll be feeling better.

When you and several other staff members are paid 7 figures, you better in the hell be able to come up with a plan.
Absolutely. It’s not unreasonable to expect some improvement over last year. I get it about injuries, especially Keenan, but there is no excuse to see the offense play as poorly as they did yesterday. If DeBoer didn’t recognize OL line play last year being a problem and make sure issues weren’t corrected, he is not the man for the job. Even new coaches at lower level schools know this where our coach apparently doesn’t. I saw very little improvement yesterday from last year. The chances of this coaching staff having a light bulb go off and make this team play to it’s talent level consistently before the season is over is virtually zero since it didn’t happen in the offseason.
We made a bad hire. Schools don’t pay millions of dollars to see repeated mistakes, deer in the headlights expressions on the sidelines or multiple win streaks broken. If DeBoer actually rights this ship, I’ll be the happiest fan on the planet because that’s the best possible outcome, but I’ve watched this sport long enough to see this as an insurmountable task with his past performance. A better hire at the end of the season can get us going in the right direction again pretty quickly, but a third year with the same results puts us in a much deeper and more expensive hole to dig out of compared to biting the bullet on the buyout.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
The game was lost for teams the moment they stepped off the bus cause that script A caused so much fear in teams, teams don’t fear the script A no more, in fact they look forward to the seeing the script A cause they smell blood.
They smell fear and mediocrity.

Good observation! I have always felt that success at Fresno State would not translate well in the SEC. Square peg in round hole!

Some very good posts last night and this morning. Most of the deficiencies have been addressed. I’ll just add, if what our coaches and team put on the field yesterday is “This is Alabama Football “ we’re in deep trouble.

I will try and remain optimistic as this is one game this year. Most of the bad from last year did rear its head though.

Either way the season goes I think the weight staff needs evaluated. They get a ton of hype but the teams since 2020 have all seemed to get weaker and pushed around. That is obviously part of players recruited but o line is big and supposed to be strong. They are fat and slow. (Mostly proctor)

Almost from game one last year I said this DC and the way he runs his scheme is awful. I could go into detail and will if anyone asks but he is just awful and worse than Golding and maybe the worst that I can remember at Bama. Add in his positional coaching LBs is horrible. I love roach as a player and was willing to give him a shot at LB coaching but his D line coaching just stinks, has never produced a player or improved them.

Recruiting is showing this year as well. Have not been able to recruit good d lineman in years and it’s rearing its ugly head. O line is a mix of bad evals and bad coaching. Now this staff isn’t helping either and honestly talent will be going down because it doesn’t matter if your lines stink. Money probably will dry up fast too. But hey if we win 10 games this year we should have a good class minus d line.

For offensive minded coaches these guys flopped last year. I’m starting to think I need to give Milroe a little more credit as we made it to playoffs under different staff and him at least. Time will tell on Grubb and this staff. It looks awful right now but it’s one game. does it seem like in season correctable issues, no. Am I hopeful FSU is just undefeated good and it’s one time thing yes. lol

I think the next three games will tell the tale of the staff. I wouldn’t chalk Wisconsin as a win. But buckle up this is going to be a bumpy ride.
