Even if it was the side of the helmet that still counts. Kelly (he killed a guy) is too dumb to know the rule.
If I remember it right, there were a couple of fingers wrapped around the mask itself. It looked like a no doubter to me. I'm glad the refs caught it. They usually miss it when it happens to BAMA.

I was rewatching the game this morning and a few observations:
  1. We had more penalties than an acceptable amount, but not killer ones.
  2. We really got a favorable call on Haynes’ goal line TD, but it probably wouldn’t have mattered.
  3. The Lawson interception was the play of the game. I don’t want to know how things would have played out had they scored there.
  4. The face mask a few plays later was the dagger.
  5. Given the weather and LSU’s weaknesses, the offensive strategy was perfect.
  6. We need to stop trying WR screens. I don’t think one has worked all year.
The coaches also went through a period of getting the play call in late. Got at least one delay of game penalty, and had to call time out at least twice.

I was checking in today to see what the results were of LSU bringing a live tiger into the stadium. In the past, when they used to bring Mike the Tiger in, the number of roars they got out of him was supposed to be an omen of how well LSU would do in the game. This tiger they brought in, got up, walked around the cage a couple of times, then laid back down. They took him out of the stadium before the teams took the field, and he promptly went to sleep. I would say this tiger did a good prediction for LSU's performance!

I've never understood why there's no viable penalty for fans throwing objects on the field. Something other than a school fine - the students/fans could care less whether the school pays a fine or not. But if it were something that would actually penalize their team while in play, they might think differently about their behavior (bottles hitting players, coaches, cheerleaders, camera personnel, etc.). Maybe a 15 yard penalty for interference? If a coach enters the field of play to question or protest a call, they're potentially subject to an immediate 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, right?

Why not the same for fans?
Excellent point!

That would absolutely solve the problem. But since that is a logical solution, it will never be instituted...🙄

I think it is because nobody knows where a fan's loyalties lie.
If Bama fans visiting Tiger stadium want to get LSU penalized, then just throw stuff onto the field after a questionable call. Boom. LSU suffers a 15-yard penalty.
True, but if the call is in your team's favor why would you throw a $5 bottle of water...?🤔

and his left leg as well. He still had that small limp but not too bad. Some of his throw was little off so I think he's learning to adjust .
Both factors will cause a high sideline throw. Also, he'd abandoned the deep ball, his forte. Last night I recall two, but weather conditions had something to do with it. It seemed neither had the air under them you expect from him. Enough air and Ryan catches that slippery ball he missed...

As I posted above, it noticeably turned JM's head. That will get called every time...

It gets even worse if aTm beats Texas. It is possible for Alabama to get left out of everything if there are 6 SEC teams tied with 10-2 records. Not likely, but possible.

This is great for fans of other teams. Heck, even great for Alabama as the Tide would have been out of it weeks ago using last year's playoff format. But still lots of work to do.
It’s theoretically possible Alabama gets knocked out of the CFP but impossible from a reality POV. If Bama wins out they are 100% in.

I would love to make the SECC game but the CFP is far more important especially since Alabama has a legitimate chance to win it all. There are no great teams this year and Alabama and DeBoer are both exceptional when the lights are the brightest.

Haven't read the whole thread, but fun fact: Bama leads CFB with the most wins over Top 25 teams at 4, twice as many as the next teams on the list. Win out and that certainly helps the playoff resume.

Is there a path to the SEC Championship game for Bama? Tennessee - 1 loss, Texas - 1 loss. A lot would have to happen.
Not really. If all favorites win the rest of the way, including Georgia beating Tennessee, it will be a Texas-Alabama SECC.

Upsets would change the matchups significantly.

Tennessee beating Georgia would mean a Texas-Tennessee SECC, and we would need Vandy to beat Tennessee to get back to Texas-Alabama.
Aggies beating Longhorns would mean an Aggie-Tide SECC.
Arkansas beating Missouri would mean a Texas-LSU SECC, and we would need Florida, Vandy, or Oklahoma to take down LSU to get back to Texas-Alabama.
If Arkansas beats Texas, Bama would meet LSU in the SECC.
If Arkansas beats Texas and LSU loses to Florida, Vandy, or Oklahoma, Alabama would meet Georgia

How does Bama get in if Tennessee has only 2 losses. They beat us.
