Bama Game Thread: Official PostGame Thread - Bama vs. LSU...

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

I recall being with friends at Cajun's Seafood in Sheffield around 2007, watching the Bama vs LSU game. LSWho was spanking the Tide pretty good. They whipped us 41-34. The mood in Cajun's was somber and sad. And now I look at Bama winning 20-9, and it's a good feeling. This Bama team has guts and spunk. They find ways to win in the face of whatever shortcomings and adversity. If, after the FSU game, I had been told we would be 8-1 on November 9th, I would have laughed. This team has been incredible. Our chances of winning out are good. And Texas A&M looks unbeatable. But they ain't played Bama.

This was as classic of a trap game from a true rival, I've experienced in my Crimson Tide Fanhood & thankful we got this win..

The Swamp Kittens had the motivation & the talent to pull off an upset..

We sent the Swamp Kittens home with their tails tucked, the game really wasn't as close as the score, it could've been worse, because we simply didn't execute in those plays or missed some catches..

If we play a full 4 quarters of Crimson Tide Football we're the best in the country & that include Indiana..

Oklahoma & The Barn you're next..

Our defense did play great but LSU’s offense has been terrible all season. I do think the defense is playing better and made plays to win the game two weeks in a row. On offense, I think we have to accept who we are. We’re like a basketball team that lives and dies by the 3. We’re going to win or lose based off the game Ty and the receivers have. Ty needs to settle down a bit and control his emotions. I think we’ve got an uphill battle but this team can absolutely win a title.
I don't have any belief that we will win any championships when we can't even gain a foot without running a double reverse pass type of gadget play. However, we have managed to win eight straight after the total crap show in Tallahassee, so maybe these guys can continue to find ways to win. Roll Tide!

To me Ty held on to the ball too long like the FSU game. Could have been him or it could have been great coverage by LSU.
If I recall correctly I believe Grubb mentioned in an interview a few weeks ago talking about a layered passing game and the “lack of deep” throws that he would like to see more. Maybe Ty is holding longer to allow those to develop? If so, given our schizophrenic Oline play, that is recipe for failure.

Then again I’m old and I could be “misremembering” that comment.

Our deep threat is Ryan Williams. Anyone else has virtually no shot of catching up to it

A running game is crucial because it allows you to control the tempo of the game, shorten the number of possessions of your opponent, rest your defense and, at times, utterly demoralized your opponent.

We don’t need to run for 200 yards a game. A consistent 125-150 would be nice. There is no reason we should need to rely on the short passing game in 3rd and two yards or less unless we face a stacked box.

The truest measure is being able to “run the ball when the other guy knows you’re going to”. At some point you just have to line up and whip the other guy. We haven’t shown the ability to do that. And we won’t get very far assuming we get to the CFP with a running game rank in the 120’s in rushing offense.
Alabama averages 115 or so according to the stats last night.

Just thinking back at LSU vs Alabama, this one is similar to many of the other games even with CNS's great NC teams. We all recall McCarron to Yeldon! From my perspective the LSU D was tremendously talented with a cornerback rated at the top in the country. It appeared to me that they had more athletes than the Bama offense could handle effectively.

It is a great lesson in preparing for Oklahoma!
LSU's defense is legit, especially their DB's. They know how to cover. LSU is losing this year because didn't have any idea what he wanted of offense. What he picked didn't work, and now he's gone.

Full disclosure: I didn’t watch the game. I followed on the radio with Chris Stewart and Tyler Watts. And yes I’m concerned as many are with the regression we are experiencing offensively.

But I know that I’m often a “prisoner of the moment”. And I get caught up in the “comparison” of our performance versus opponents against what another team did. The “TAMU destroyed them two weeks ago in Baton Rouge” comparison.

I think this team was a different team than we saw two weeks ago due to one thing- Addition by subtraction with Kelly be fired. By all accounts Wilson has the respect of the players on that team. Brian Kelly certainly didn’t . I think instead of coming apart, they came together and played better, at least defensively, than they have all year. At least that is my hope.

LSU wasn’t picked by many across college football to be a national title contender because they lacked talent. They probably have has much talent as anyone in the conference. They just never came together under a narcissist like Kelly.
That was not the same team the ags played, they had a bye and a coach to rally around.

I dont understand why we didn't switch to throwing shorter more intermediate passes when LSU started getting all that pressure. There didn't seem to be any adjustment. Like we were going to be stubborn in contiuing the long developing pass plays.
Betcha we see more of what you’re talking about vs Oklahoma. That’s a real stout defense and you won’t often get a chance for long plays.

I also noticed that on several of these there did not appear to be any short routes. It’s not always the quarterback. Sometimes play designs will get ya sacked or pressured

I we averaged 118 going into last night. We rushed for 56 last night. I think I saw we drop to like 124 in rushing offense out of 136.

Rushing for 150 average should be our goal.
After game Simpson said (paraphrasing) the lack rushing production is mental. I think he’s probably right. If so, that’s a coaching task to improve that. We know the guys Bama lines up against are not “better.” Of course a guy will beat you sometimes, but unless it’s the occasional superstar, that should be the exception. RTR

I commented the same to my wife. Their secondary was good, however...
