Without question my favorite sports movie of all time is "Rudy". That young fellow was an inspiration to a lot of people(including me) and the film brought out the incredible emotion involved during his time at Notre Dame.

My favorite scene is where the Notre Dame players walk into Dan Devine's office and, one by one, lay their jerseys on his desk saying, "Let Rudy take my place coach"...Incredible stuff.

To my incredible dismay I read this weekend that it didn't happen that way at all, that dressing Rudy was actually Dan Devine's very own idea because he thought it would inspire the entire Notre Dame team.

I don't know about you guys and gals but that is a major major downer to me...lol

No surprise really. "Remember the Titans" wasn't accurate either. Neither was "Friday Night Lights." Writers/producers have to do what people want to see.

Most sports movies that are based on actual events are inaccurate. I do want to say one that was pretty accurate was "Miracle". But I might be wrong on that. Speaking of "Rudy", I remember that scene being talked about one time during a radio interview with Joe Montana who I think was an underclassman at that at ND. He said he remembered nothing of the sort happening and didn't have much recollection of Rudy being on the team, even the scout team. He pointed out that he was not knocking Rudy or the movie but he thought the events of the movie and some of the interactions between the walk on scout teamer and varsity letterman were a bit exaggerated. Also, Vince Vaughn tells a funny story about his fear and inability to throw a football in capacity filled Notre Dame Stadium during filming of the movie.
BTW, anyone remember the movie that was filmed in Batoun Rouge before the game or during halftime of the Bama-LSU game in 1987? Or was it 1989?

I hate to break it to you, but Forrest Gump didn't run a kickoff back for a TD either.

If he did, though, it was fitting that it was against Tennessee.

My buddy's father played on for Notre Dame when Rudy was there and he said the players didn't like Rudy. Doesn't change the fact for me that the movie is awesome.

I read an article this weekend about the making of "Major League" they said that Westley Snipes who played fast willy mays hays was so slow they had to film all his running scenes in slow motion to make him look fast.
And, Sheen just came out and admitted he took 'roids for the movie. Really? Taking steroids to look the part as a baseball pitcher? Wow.

That was a great movie and I still believe it was based on the life of Billy Cannon.
Well it was set in the Cannon era at LSU and the hero wore Cannon's number . . . but the storyline was nothing like Billy Cannon's. Total Hollywood. The heroine greatly resembled Joanne Woodward, who also attended LSU at the time, but her storyline was Hollywood, too.

Also read an article some time ago, that they had to teach Snipes A LOT about basketball and how to handle the ball and shoot for the making of "white men can't jump".

Cannon may have influenced the book writer to write something similar but not identical for the sake of dramatic effect.

How anyone can dislike Rudy, I'll never get it. Little guy has a dream, works his butt off, never stops believing and makes his dream come true. What's not to like?

If I am not mistaken I remember Rudy actually being interviewed on JOX one day. I can't remember if it was Finebaum or Herb Winches, but I do remember it?

Rudy play starts at 1:28, Rudy is number 45 at the top of the screen

I love that movie...
