Not quite, but living here in Columbus, you might as well call off the rest of the college football season. So, don't worry about that LF UT/UA game on saturday or any other game for that matter, because the buckeyes are #1.

Before I moved here in March, I visited the previous December. Happened to be the weekend of the Heisman trophy presentation (Troy Smith won). Of course, I was wearing my Bama gear in Buckeye land which stirred a number of conversations with OSU fans. They had no doubt that they would DESTROY Florida in the BCS title game. I was not so sure, I told them. In case you forgot, they were crushed 41-14.

So, OSU is ranked #1 and around here, people are already reserving trips to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl. $3000 trips for a game that is 84 days away. Now, I am sure that OSU is not the best team in the country and I don't even think they are the best team in the Big 10. I still think they will lose 2-3 games (Penn State and Michigan for sure). I work in TV news here as a photographer and the local media is just all about talking national title as if it is inevitable.

I know one thing, Ohio State better hope they don't face an SEC team in any bowl game they play as they have never defeated an SEC team in post season play (0-2 against Bama).

Anyway, just wanted to drop this perspective in here. People think we are crazy fans... but these buckeyes are just nuts.

I'm fine with Ohio State staying in the #1 spot and making it to the Championship Game... they just better hope and pray that an SEC team doesn't make it to the #2 spot to challenge them.

Okay, kids, does anyone know what Ohio State's bowl record is against SEC Teams?

:)

I'm pretty sure they haven't won a game. I would like to know what the exact 0-fer is b/c my good buddy is an OSU fan and he always brags about how good their record is and this and that.. and how he's sick of hearing the SEC is the toughest conference and so on and so forth

I don't know their record vs. the SEC but know they are 0-3 vs. Bama.

I feel for you, punchdrunk. I used to checkout The Fan via the net at work to listen to Herbie. Can't do that any longer as his arrogant, pontificating co-host Bruce Hooley (I refer to him as Bruce Hooptey) just drives me nuts. They can keep Spielman too. :)

I work in downtown Columbus and there is a group of people here (OSU Fans) that I and a few other SEC fans joke around with. All in good fun. Normally, they are all about OSU and I was expecting a lot of emails Monday morning bragging about OSU number 1 ranking. But surprisingly they have been pretty quiet. I think they and a few other OSU fans realize that they have a very favorable schedule and they are not the best team. Plus, after the beating by Florida, they don't want to jump on the NC bandwagon just yet!

Now don't get me wrong there are still plenty of OSU fans around thinking they already won the NC, I am just saying the ones I deal with on daily basis are laying low.

With all that said, I am hoping that Michigan wins the big eleven!

Well they aren't USC, Mich, ND or the dreaded Les Miles LSU so them winning is fine in my book

I live in Columbus as well. My experience so far this year is different than yours. Most of the folks I talk to know they haven't played anybody yet this year and are actually concerned about their remaining schedule, especially about having to go play a night game on the road at Penn State and having to go up to Michigan.

The Buckeye fans are really intense, but no more so than Bama fans. (I did win some considerable money off of these guys betting on Florida last year).

I have found them to be really good fans around here. They love their team and are very loyal. I can't blame them for that.

That Kick-Off Classic in 1986, wasn't that DT's coming out party? Seems he had a couple of pass interference calls at the end of the game.

I didn't know there were other Bama fans in Ohio. I live in Dayton and constantly here about the great OSU. I tell people I will talk football with them when there school has as many championships as mine. I actually had a guy walk off the 6th hole of a golf course after I said that.

I've come across quite a number of extremely smug OSU fans. Before they were dismembered by UF they thought they were the best team ever. It was pretty obnoxious. Once they lost they were hard to find and those I could find had so many excuses you would have thought OSU actually won the game.

You're right, that's an August game. My bad.

About the Kick-Off Classic...

...In 1978, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, which operates and schedules events at Giants Stadium, decided to host an end-of-season bowl game, called the Garden State Bowl. There were four such bowl games held, but attendance was lower than hoped by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA) due to December weather and less attractive teams.[citation needed] Consequently, NJSEA decided to host a "bowl" game in the beginning of the season instead. This would attract more popular teams and ensure better attendance due to more favorable weather conditions. (wiki)
