Ole Miss Game

I bought tickets to the Ole Miss game, can anyone give me any suggestions on places to stay in Oxford? Would it be feasible to stay in Memphis and drive in? Thanks for any help.

Two years ago we stayed at the Embassy Suites in Memphis, the Shady Grove Road one. Not a bad drive to Oxford.

I'm sure all hotels in Oxford are booked. Try Tupelo or smaller towns outside Oxford. There should be a lot of people staying in Tupelo. I'll be at the Holiday Inn Express Friday and Saturday night

Memphis is close (less than an hour), and Tupelo is closer. Also, check Batesville (half an hour away) and Grenada (ditto).

Aside: Batesville is home of South Panola HS, which is sort of the Hoover of MS. Multiple undefeated seasons in a row, multiple D1 players every year, including some great ones for the Tide through the years (biggest name is prolly Deshea Townsend, but we've had others from there). If they're playing at home on Friday, their games are usually fun to watch too.

I love the game day experience at Ole Miss, btw. (aside from the quality of football the Rebs usually play that is...:tongue:...). In gen'l, Oxford is a pretty neat little town.

(Context: exiled, jr. will be a sophomore there this Fall, which means he's the biggest Tide fan at Ole Miss. Sadly, UA doesn't have pharmacy; thus, UM it is...)

I assume you are coming from St. Loius. Memphis would be good for you. Depending on where you stay, it'll be about 1.5 hour drive, "give or take". We drive down to Oxford every year we play there.

Yeah we're coming from St. Louis, I knew Memphis wasn't a bad drive. I was just wondering what getting on to Oxford on game day would be like. I would like to see some of the campus either before or after the game and check out "The Grove" so that is a consideration on where we stay. Does Oxford not have many hotels? I can't believe they are all booked already. I found a room in Fayetteville last August before our game. Thanks for all the replies.

The drive from Memphis on game day isn't bad at all. You take the interstate down and then a 4-lane highway over, so traffic isn't bad at all, especially if you get there relatively early. Also, if you stay just south of Memphis, on the Mississippi side, the tax on your hotel room is a lot lower. I haven't counted, but I doubt there are many hotels actually in Oxford.

There are two main ways to get to Oxford from Memphis depending on where you stay. If you are staying downtown, you can take I-55 down. If you are staying in the Germantown/Collierville area you can take HWY 78 down. Neither are bad drives.

As far as Oxford hotels, I do not have a clue. I am a TIDE PRIDE member and have had tickets for four years. It is next to impossible to get a room in T-town, and I can't imagine Oxford being any better (less people, but smaller town).

I'm coming down from Columbia, Mo, to meet my brother and friends there in Memphis. We'll be staying at the Hampton Inn near Beal Street.

This will be my first trip to Oxford but I've heard alot of good things so I'm sure I'll enjoy the experience, especially if we come in there and dominate.

We're only staying on Beale Street because we are planning on getting into lots of trouble. At least that's what we are letting our wives think.

olive branch ms is about 50 minutes away and has several hotels. the team also stays here or has in the past.

Tupelo is where a lot of Alabama people stay on their way to Oxford, plenty of hotel space and not too far from Oxford, most of the highway is four lane so it makes it a good drive.
