Just wondering what everyone thinks about his matchup. Houston Nutt has been praising our D, saying "we've manhandled everybody" which as we all know is true. So, given the history of Nutt, I tend to think he will be flipping to the back of the playbook and using some quirky/trick plays frequently to try and keep us off balance. Thoughts?

they're best bet is to try to use speed to get the outside corner. it's not as if we're a slow defense on the edges, though. if we can get pressure on snead it should be a long day for ole miss on offense.

They might, but they can't do that for four quarters.

If you want to see what might happen to Ole Miss, go look at the South Carolina game. That USC front seven is a bona fide SEC unit, but they are nowhere near Bama.

by the end of the night they were getting pressure on snead with 2-3 linemen. i remember one sack in particular where SC rushed two and dropped 9. they got the sack and at least 3 OM linemen were just standing there looking for someone to block.

Nutt is a nut. What I mean by that is he consistantly inconsistant. If he takes a game seriously he will have a serious game plan. Other times, his teams lay down, cause he hasn't prepared his team. Nutt's pattern at Arkansas was winning games he shouldn't and losing games he shouldn't.

So, be ready. Ole Miss will be ready for us - no doubt. He will have a good game plan for us.

EDSBS Archive BLOGPOLL, CONTINUING TO REDEFINE MUDDLE

EDSBS says it best:

"Alabama maintains with processed, Nick Saban-style consistency, though it would be just the kind of ........ Houston Nutt flip-eroo to pull this week by looking iffy against Vandy last week before blasting Alabama in a patented “effort” victory over Alabama this weekend. Woo, we’re as good as people say we are! Then drop the following conference game against Arkansas in two weeks. Thus the difference between Houston Nutt and Nick Saban: high-variance hootin’ and hollerin’ with emotional lows resulting in losses, and the icy professionalism of “process” coaches like Saban and Urban Meyer."

This game will come down to whose o line does the best against the others d line. I think our o line looks up to the test. They will try to screen us to slow us down but our defense is to fast and im sure after kentucky tried this saban has coached us against that. Our d line will blow through their oline and that is the difference. Saban has taken a big interest in this game. I think this game wont be close. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!!!!!:BigA:

Agreed. This game will be won in the trenches and I believe UA has an edge in that department......especially on the defensive front.

Sure they can.. Just ask Kiffin about AU...!

Well, I look for Nutt to throw in a bunch of slants and quick throws, then alot of mis-direction plays. We will have to bring our A game and to think other wise is just fooling ourselves. With that said, I am hoping for a blow out on our part!

I think that both teams' o-lines will struggle to protect their respective QB. I think that we have a bigger d-line vs o-line edge than they have, but they still have an edge. So, if that is true, it could come down to the performance of the two QBs under pressure.

Snead has proven to be very ineffective under pressure. Simply said, if he gets time to set his feet, we are in trouble - but make him move around and he is a disaster waiting to happen.

McElroy has shown that he can be as good as anyone in the country when he has time to set his feet - ANYONE - but he gets unsettled when he has to move around, especially early in the game. However, he has been able to settle down in every game, so far.

They will blitz early and often, and they disguise their blitzes well. Our RBs have to have a good day picking that up.

I think that both QBs will make mistakes, but Snead will get worse as the game wears on while GMac gets better.

Their X-Factor is McCluster. We have to maintain discipline or he will eat us up on the edges.

Our X-Factor is our stable of RBs. Fresh legs at the end of the game, combined with GMac's settled play, should end up being the difference.

The earlier GMac settles in, the greater the score differential.

If the game is purely in the trenches then advantage to us. I however, feel that OM will try to get McClusker in space with swing passes or reverses or sweeps. They have a couple of pretty good inside runners in Bolton and Eason to keep us honest, but McClusker is their game breaker. If I were Nutt I would have Snead rollout, I do not think they can protect him in the pocket consistently. I smell a fake punt or a fake field goal at somepoint during the game. Our best defense will be ball control to keep Snead and McClusker on the sidelines and keep our defense fresh. If we can do this and not give them anything cheap then OM is going to be in trouble.

I think you nailed it (especially the part in bold). McElroy fascinates me in how he can be gotten the best of (pressure, sacks, coverage of our WR), and maintain a level head. This goes back to how smart he is. Eventually, he'll figure you out and then off he goes being incredible. It's nice to have a QB that doesn't have the Toretta eyes or dear-in-the-headlight look for a change. (no slam to prior QB's...just saying)

I think Nutt is a prime example of why CNS tells the players not to focus on inspiration as it is an external factor. Instead the focus should be aspiration. For Bama players the aspiration is the desire to dominate your opponent and to be a champion. Those things are within you and are things that are controlled by you.

Nutt seems to thrive off of inspiration. Being a "River Boat Gambler" works occasionally...but even then it is only for a while. That's one of several reasons that Nutt won't retire from Arkansas.

Another would be the fact that they already fired him...

I know that you know, that you know that I know that Nutt is no longer employed by Arkansas, you know?

Since I have only recently started posting on this website...or any website as far as that goes...I forget that sarcasm and tone don't show up in the written word. So in case my post was confusing, Nutt's "non-employment" at Arkansas is proof that being a coach who is driven by inspiration can only take you so far. :-)
