. By Jess Nicholas TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief Sept. 15, 2015 If the reason for Ole Miss’ mediocre performance in 2014 was QB Bo Wallace – a.k.a., The Man of Many Turnovers – consider that problem fixed. The Rebels were picked in the middle to the bottom of the SEC West in 2015 largely because of questions […]

Holy Moly! I was hanging onto my seat at the end there. It's hard to believe Ole Sis leads the LB category. This game concerns me. The Tide IS going to have to bring its play up a notch across the board to win. Thanks for the analysis and Roll Tide!

Good read Jess. Hard to analyze Ole Miss based on the two games so far though they do seem more than sound on both sides of the ball. Perhaps a more interesting title would be, " Rebels will find out whether Bama is for real. :)

Probably at 35k or in an airport somewhere
Of the 24 ways I can think of to score 24 points in a football game, only 11 don't involve making a field goal:

  • 4 TDs, no extra points
  • 3 TDs, 3 2pt conversions
  • 3 TDs, 2 2pt conversions, 1 safety
  • 3 TDs, 1 2pt conversion, two safeties
  • 3 TDs, 1 2pt conversion, 2 1pt conversions, 1 safety
  • 3 TDs, 2 1pt conversions, 2 safeties
  • 3 TDs, no conversions, 3 safeties
  • 2 TDs, no conversions, 6 safeties
  • 1 TD, 1 2pt conversion, 8 safeties
  • 1 TD, no conversions, 9 safeties
  • 0 TDs, twelve safeties

Which of these are you predicting, Jess?

Here`s hoping that Brandon Greene`s stint at TE indicates a bit more athleticism (AKA quicker feet) on the right side. Anybody in the know have an opinion on that? Have to wonder if that was true, why wasn`t he starting in the first place?

I just have a bad feeling about this game. I don't know if we are for real and if we have the team to make a deep run this year after watching our first two games. QB play, special teams, and pass coverage are my concerns. Also for the first time this season, our offense and defense will be going against a team with similar, equal, or better talent at every position. We will have to contain their QB to have a shot at winning. I don't think our offense is capable of getting into a scoring shootout.

If you are correct about the match ups, we will not win this game. In fact, it would be that close either.

I have to wonder how much your assessment is influenced by Ole Miss scoring 70 on two teams without a pulse, which literally tells us nothing about them. In that vein, I also wonder what your assessment would look like if this were the first game of the year for both teams.

I'm not arguing with your conclusions necessarily, especially QB and special teams. I'm just saying if you're right, I can't see us winning or even keeping it within a 10 point deficit even taking into account intangibles and coaching.

Another factor is that their offensive strengths may not let our DL influence the game much despite the positional win in this analysis. If our DL is really different this year, they'll contain those draws and traps while abusing Chad Kelly.

I think that we know that Alabama is for real after Wisconsin won so convincingly last Saturday. We just don't know how good Ole Miss is. If they are as good as they have looked then we will simply find out which (Alabama or Ole Miss) is going to win the SEC this weekend. So far these two teams appear to be the best in your conference.

Interesting perspective. It means that despite all the talent that`s been stockpiled at BAMA, this year UM just flat has a better football team. That would be a bitter pill. OR will they scheme us to death ? That would mean superior coaching (?).

That's why I find the match ups troubling. Ole Miss has certainly upgraded their talent level under Freeze. They are a really good team - no doubt about it. But they haven't recruited or developed players to Alabama's level yet. Not quite, at least IMO. I also don't believe they have superior coaching.

So why the match up disparity? Again, it's not that I don't believe JessN - he's the best there is at this stuff. But where I was thinking Alabama could beat Ole Miss by 2 scores, now I get the feeling it could go the other way.

This is the kind of write up I would expect if Alabama played, say, Ohio State right now. But not Ole Miss.

I still think Texas A&M could be in the mix too.

I think the only position we have to worry about is QB. When we have lost a game the past 5 years plus, hasn't it always been because of a QB having the game of his life? (excluding LSU 11). Serious ?. Have we lost another game due to any other position than a super hot QB?

The chatter and lead up to this game remind me a lot of the lead up to last year's game with #1 MSU. Remember how that one turned out? Have faith, people.
I agree my friend. We always seem to play up or down to the level of our competition. We will win this game not from the kicking game but because we haven't shown everything offensively. We know Drake is going to be pumped for this game and I expect a few wrinkles will be added to get him in space in ways we haven't seen yet. I also think that OJ Howard gets a few more seam looks this week. Jess makes many good points but playing two cupcakes at home doesn't prepare you for Bama on the road. One major concern is Coker throwing picks but hopefully CLK will work on ways to minimize his limitations. It was good seeing Coker climb in the pocket a few times against MTSU. I think he may have to do that a lot more often in this upcoming game. Chad Kelly has looked very impressive but I want to see how he handles a hostile road environment under the lights on primetime. I wouldn't mind seeing Allen get about three sacks! :) I concur with my brother, fundytide, HAVE FAITH.
